Gustavo Dudamel, the “energetic ambassador for classical music” (Vanity Fair), returns with this all-new Deutsche Grammophon recording of symphonic works derived from Shakespeare as re-imagined in music by Tchaikovsky. Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuel unite on their sixth collaboration on the Yellow Label.
Dudamel leads the electrifying Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest and Hamlet -- three unique concert works that display both the virtuosity and refinement of the ensemble. Previously the group has recorded Mahler, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and a program of devoted to Latin American composers -- all under the direction of Dudamel. In a unique nod to the roots of this program, DG has asked actor Simon Callow to write the program notes and give context to Shakespeare’s works. From the Label
