The Art of Survival Chapter 3- Kristen's POV I am in my room, leaning back in a chair with my feet on the wooden table in front of me. The room I had claimed is paintded a soft blue, and decorated in a modern style- just like I like it. I hear a faint buzzing and nearly fall out of my chair in shock. I recover quickly and grab my phone, answering the call from a girl named Katonia. "Hello?" I ask. "Kristen? We found a great place. A farm. We beat the huntlings to it. It's got animals and food and everything. Come right away!" Katonia says excitedly. "Okay... okay. We'll pack up and be there soon as possible!" I reply, and hang up. I leap to my feet and grab my bright yellow backpack. I start jamming clothes- from dresses to jeans to my baseball jacket- into the bag. When I'm through, I sling it over my shoulder and grab a flashlight, a box of matches, and a Baggie of dog treats. "Wolf! C'mon, boy!" I shout. A large black-and-white wolf pounds in, eyes bright and ears pricked. I have a way with animals, so getting Wolf was easy. The powerful creature howls loudly and bounds after me. "Pack up, guys, we're movin' out!" I yell. Wolf and I run to the car and load up. My excitement fizzles out when I hear the moans. The moans of the dead. * * * Hunter's POV I hear Kristen hollering and hop up. I've got nothing to pack, but I take the awesome wrought-iron lampshade from the room I'd been assigned to. Griffin joins me, weilding a drainage pipe like a sword. We head downstairs and meet with Autumn, David, and Gabriel, who are carrying duffel bags and backpacks. We pile into the car out front, and are zipping down the highway before Griffin's even shut the door. "Close the damn door!" Kristen commabds in a slightly shaky voice. My brother hurriedly obeys. "What's up, Kris?" Gabriel asks from the shotgun seat. "We're moving to a farm Katonia found. She said all the animals are there, and she beat the huntlings to it, so no animals are infected." Kristen explains, glancing cautiously at the rearview mirror. "Sounds cool." I comment quietly. "What'd you say your name was?" Gabriel asks. "Hunter." I answer. "Cool." After that, we are silent for the rest of the drive. I use the time to try to solve the many unanswered questions swirling around in my head. I only end up with more. But I have one true statement. This life is not one for me. Or anyone else, really. But it's the only life I've got, so I'll keep it.
