Editorial Reviews

This book is one of nine in a set on the "Typology of Languages in Europe". The goal of the series is to study the patterns and limits in cross-linguistic variation; this book focuses on tense and aspect in European languages. Comprised of twenty-one articles by various authors, the chapters are split into five topics: future time reference, the perfect, the progressive, case studies, and general overviews on tense and aspect in European languages. Two themes receiving special attention in the articles are the diachronic paths of development, and the identification and explanation of areal phenomena. Authors wrote using available knowledge as well as their own research. The appendix contains the questionnaires used to profile various languages. Annotation c.
