About the Author

Matthew P. Mayo's novel, Tucker�s Reckoning, won the Western Writers of America's Spur Award for Best Western Novel. He has also been a Spur Finalist and a Peacemaker Award Finalist in the Short Fiction category. His stories have appeared in dozens of anthologies, and his many novels include the Westerns Winters' War; Wrong Town; Dead Man's Ranch; Tucker�s Reckoning; The Hunted; and others. Mayo has also written numerous novels under pen names for several popular series of adventure novels.

His non-fiction books include Cowboys, Mountain Men & Grizzly Bears; Bootleggers, Lobstermen & Lumberjacks; Sourdoughs, Claim Jumpers & Dry Gulchers; Haunted Old West, and many more. He also collaborated with his wife, photographer Jennifer Smith-Mayo, on a series of popular coffee-table books: Maine Icons; New Hampshire Icons; and Vermont Icons.
