Testing Luke (Devereaux Billionaires, #3) by Mallory Crowe

Billionaire Luke Devereaux gets what he wants and what he wants right now is to bring down the shady organization threatening his family.  Teaming up with the FBI is his only option--even if that option comes in the sultry Evelyn Price, the ice-princess who's all business.

Refusing to be distracted by the sexy, rich playboy, Evelyn forces herself to stay focused on the case, gearing up for the criminal takedown of her entire career. As the enemy closes in with Evelyn as its next target, it's up to Luke to keep them out of danger.  The more they work to protect each other, and fight for control, the harder it is to resist their undeniable attraction.

And the one thing Evelyn has learned from working with him is that Luke Devereaux gets what he wants.

I had never read any Mallory Crowe books before but was presented with the opportunity to read Testing the Boss. I enjoyed the book and while it could be read as a stand alone, I do feel like I needed to read the other books to really get the whole jist of what was happening here. The writing is strong. The characters are likable and strong. Evelyn is a strong FBI agent and Luke is the sexy billionaire she is protecting. The sexual tension is high and the sex scenes are steamy. A very enjoyable read. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I didn't feel like it was a true stand alone. I will definitely go back and read the rest of this series!

I received this book in return for an honest review. Though it is a standalone, you will enjoy the background story more if you have read the previous books in the series. I loved the chemistry between Luke and Evelyn and meeting up with characters from previous books.

*ARC received in exchange for an honest review* I loved this book! There's tons of action, smart dialogue, smoking sex, and great characters and story line. The chemistry between FBI agent Evelyn Price and billionaire Luke Devereaux is off the charts. This book ends with a big surprise and I can't wait for the next in the series.

Two strong characters This is Luke's story within the series... He and Evelyn seem like they are oil and water, but when she works closer with him on her case... things start to get interesting! Each gets to know the other better and sparks fly! Who will protect whom from the danger that is around them? Can they work together? Testing The Boss can be read by itself, but you get a better idea of what is going on and who everyone is when read all together. I love the push and pull relationship between these two! Their personalities shine through the pages... Really enjoyed the way things play out and am looking forward to seeing what comes next in this series! *copy gifted in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the sixth book in Mallory Crowe’s series but Testing the Boss is actually the second book in the Devereaux chapter. I have only read the first book Devereaux book, and I enjoyed that one immensely. So I was definitely looking forward to reading this one. And I was not disappointed. However, even though this book can be read as a stand-alone, I do feel that I missed something by not having read the books that came first. Whenever I met a character, I often wondered about their background and story. However, I still enjoyed both of these books, but I think I would have appreciated them a lot more if I had read the others first. This book has an interesting premise. The hero, Luke Devereaux is a billionaire but the heroine, Evelyn, is an FBI agent. In fact, she was in Ms. Crowe’s last book as part of the rescue team. As an FBI agent, she has to be independent, brave, adventurous and willing to follow orders from her bosses. This is difficult for Luke who is used to getting everything he wants. The plot is about a “shady organization” that is threatening Luke’s family. Of course, he believes he can take care of them on his own. Unfortunately, Evelyn’s orders are to protect Luke and bring down this organization herself. Therefore, Luke and Evelyn are always arguing about everything. But the sparks from their chemistry is overwhelming! In spite of this, Luke begins to care about Evelyn and wants to protect her and keep her out of the problem. Unfortunately for him, Evelyn’s job is to protect Luke, and she wants to keep him away from the danger. This is one of the things I enjoyed best about the book – Evelyn is the protector and Luke is supposed to be the “protectee.” I would highly recommend this book. It is an exciting romantic suspense thriller with lots of danger and adventure. This book works very well as a stand-alone. However, I suggest you read, at least, Trusting the Boss first.

****4.5 Star Review**** Mallory Crowe does it again with book six, 'Testing the Boss' of the 'Billionaires in the City' series. This is a great read that I highly recommend. This is the second book in this series that concentrates on the Devereaux brothers. We met two of them in book four when they were trying to protect their cousin, Emma. In book seven the third brother, Rourke, will be featured as he has been estranged from his brothers for years. Arrogant, self-confident, conceited, and handsome as sin Luke Devereaux is a confirmed bachelor who prefers one night stands or short-term hook-ups. Commitment is not in his vocabulary and he is perfectly content to have beautiful, loose-moraled models on his arm and in his bed. He is working closely with the FBI, picking up where his brother left off, to bring down a financial crime organization to protect the lives of his family and others at risk. The sultry Evelyn Price, FBI lead on this investigation, rubs him the wrong way and the feeling is mutual. They can hardly tolerate being in each others company so he avoids her at all cost. Unfortunately, that does not lend to success when fighting crime. Dislike or hate is definitely not what these two are fighting. They are at war with the undeniable heat and passion they evoke in each other. Evelyn's job becomes one of protection, shadowing Luke twenty-four-seven, keeping him safe until they bring down the bad guys. When both their lives are in danger they work diligently to protect each other. Resisting their attraction becomes their greatest conflict. Wow, another great read! Please start at the beginning of this series. You will have a greater understanding of how these people connect which makes a much more interesting and easy-to-understand story. I received this as an Advanced Reader Copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved the story. You feel like you know the characters personally. When you start this book you cannot put it down.

While this is the sixth book in a series, Mallory Crowe makes sure you can read this as a standalone book. I have not read all the previous five books but have read some of them. I am constantly going back and reading another of the previous ones as I want to see the detailed background of what happened earlier. Luke and Evelyn are the central characters. It is a great read to see their back and forth dance as they get together. I love the friction between the two alpha beings. Neither wants to give up control to the other. Pick this up for a great read and start your own need to read all of this series.
