Texas Lily by Patricia Rice

Originally published by Penguin/Topaz from the bestselling author of the Magic series:
Gently raised and badly treated, Lily Porter married Jim Brown without love to have a father for her child. She tried to be a good wife to the rancher as he carved out a cattle kingdom. But now her husband was gone. She was a woman alone, with a child to raise and a ranch to run, in a land aflame with violence and ripe for rebellion, where women were expected to be seen and not heard. Lily needed a man to stand up for her and her land.

The man she chose was just called Cade, part Apache, part Mexican, proud and reckless. He had a past and a secret he would not reveal, but he possessed a power and passion that commanded all in his path. Lily willingly joined with him in a struggle against treachery and terror—and in a love she would risk anything not to lose.

This was my first time to read this author, and I really enjoyed this book. It was action packed from the very beginning with a great 'against all odds' love story. I especially loved the unique family formed by all these characters! I usually do not read Western romance novels, but I plan to read more of this series.

I really enjoyed this book. 370 pages. I loved the way all of the characters fit and that the loyalty of families and friends came together to fight Ricardo and his gang. It was hard to put down to even sleep, will read more by this author. This book was in a bundle of 4 and getting ready to start on #2. GJRA

I Could Not Put It Down! This book would not usually classify as a fast read, having over 350 pages, but I classify it that way because I couldn't put it down once I started it and finished it in a day. The story of Cade and Lily was so fascinating that the time just flew by and the whole cast of characters caught and kept your interest from beginning to end. Let me just say that the hero, Cade , was by no means perfect; he could come across as the typical arrogant alpha male, but the peeks that Ms. Rice would give at his inner yearnings for home and family, and also a lack of desire to kill; well this made him a very intriguing man. The story takes place while Texas was still part of Mexico, and about a year or so before Texas became a Republic free from Mexico and not a part of the United States. The historical background adds plenty of action and color to the story, but make no mistake, this is a love story. Romantic and physical love; love between parents and children; and love for close friends as well as the loyalty to same. There are so many memorable moments in this book, but many of my favorite revolve around little 3 year old Serena. Let her and all the other characters populating this wonderful story take you on an unforgettable journey.

Is that all you have to recommend you? If that were all that was needed, there would be no need for a living breathing male. After all, all one needs to do is run to the nearest novelty shop in order to acquire their very own(or jump online if she's unable to get to one, or perhaps is just modest or shy;) I'm just sayin'...

The overall story is good although there was a little too much sex for me. It was ruined by one scene I just could not get over. The heroine was raped by the hero and it is seen as ok because she liked it. He forced her, which is rape, and should never be romanticized.
