About the Author
I was born on Birch River, West Virginia on May 2, 1922. I received my education, (what little clung to me), at Skyles Grade School until the eighth grade. Then I drifted through Cowen High School in Cowen, West Virginia where I learned very little. That is not to say that Cowen wasn't a good school, just that I wasn't a very good pupil, as I was having too much fun goofing off to even consider studying. However, then I decided that a diploma would help, I proceeded to take the G.E.D. test and received my diploma that way. I then enlisted in the U. S. Army for a short while. I received a Certificate of Disability Honorable Discharge and proceeded to train to do sheet-metal work at Camp Caesar under the National Youth Administration. I worked at the Norfolk Navy Yard for a short while. After that, I worked for an Oil Company, (which shall remain nameless), for a period of two and a half years, when I started driving freight trucks for a while. After a few years, I went to Refrigeration and Air Conditioning School for a year and started working for the Power Company as an appliance service-man. In May of 1950, I decided to retire. After thirty-one years. I found that retirement wasn't all the great. So now I'm trying to put on paper some of the things I have experienced in life and hope that I might add a little humor to someone's life and help someone along the way.
