For over a century, Thayer's has been lauded as one of the best New Testament lexicons available. Both accessible and thorough, it is a work suited for the student of New Testament Greek. Thayer's provides dictionary definitions for each word and relates each word to its New Testament usage and categorizes its nuances of meaning. Its exhaustive coverage of New Testament Greek words, as well as its extensive quotation of extra-biblical word usage and the wealth of background sources consulted and quoted, render Thayer's an invaluable resource.

I just read in the introduction to my Thayers, that the author was a Unitarian and didn't believe in such things as the Trinity. The publisher made a disclaimer that this influenced his translation. If you are a serious Christian studing...even though I've used this book for over a decade...I'm going to switch. Because either you believe the bible to be entirely true, or you are calling God a liar. If Thayer's work is questionable in the most important doctrines, it's not for me. Has the book been valuable? Yes. Has it been accurate in helping me to correctly divide the Word of God? I don't know now, because he may have given me the wrong definition. When in doubt...don't! I doubt this book, so (rather sadly, its like saying goodby to an old friend)I don't use it any longer.
Thayer's lexicon came out almost at the exact time of the discovery of the Oxy. Papyri. Therefore, it has none of the data that has been found in those fragments. It may be a cheap lexicon to start out with, and it still may be useful for basic bible studies, but I'd take Bauer's work over it any day. Save up for something better.
