A detailed analysis of the expansion of the EU to include the four
countries of the European Free Trade Association, Austria, Sweden,
Finland, and Norway. Outlines the evolution of relations between the
two organizations since 1984 and how the four countries reached the
state of applying for EU membership. Then analyzes the negotiations
by the four countries, focusing on the process, issues, content, and
the final referenda. Also sets the enlargement into the wider context
of EU history. Most of the eight papers were delivered at a December
1994 conference in London.
