Having followed the 21DSD & benefited greatly from the program, I can honestly say it is the most comprehensive, easy to follow guide to ditching sugar. The 21 DSD Cookbook is an awesome companion to the original book. For those very beginners, everything is here to get you started. It's so much more than a collection of recipes. The lists of recommended products & brands as well as information on where to buy them is an awesome resource. You can choose a level, follow a meal plan & adjust it according to your activity level/lifestyle. My activity level is high, including crossfit workouts & running so I need more carbs. Each recipe has a symbol referring to modifications so I know exactly how to adjust it accordingly. Couldn't be easier to follow. I am very impressed with the "Kitchen Basics" section of this book which provides many recipes for condiments, dressings, & spice blends. Utilizing this section of the book alone can provide so many possibilities for great meal. The southwestern, Indian, & Greek spice blends are my favorite to rub on chicken, pork, or fish. I have truly enjoyed every recipe I have prepared from this cookbook. I was curious about the fennel & sage meatballs, having never tried bison before or considered using fennel in a tomato sauce. I was so surprised how well the flavors went together & impressed with a very creative combination of herbs & veggies. I also loved the chorizo burgers with the seasoned sweet potato fries on the side. I had the spice blends from the kitchen basics chapter already prepared which made it a very quick & simple meal to prepare. Trying to incorporate more carbs into my diet without over doing the sweet potato, I tried the roasted garlic parsnip mash. Really delicious as a side dish. Even if you're not interested in a sugar detox program, this is just a terrific cookbook. If you are striving to cut out sugar, it is an invaluable resource! Excellent book!

This book saved my sanity when my doctor suddenly ordered a "no sugar, no flour [of any kind], no potatoes (etc.) diet." Obviously, I haven't been able to use all the recipes, but most of them--and they are all good or easily tweaked. I find the supplemental information just as valuable, and appreciate that she figures leftovers into future meals and ways to use the part of the avocado or coconut or leftover nuts (after making nut milk) so the food doesn't go to waste. She truly has thought of everything, including suggestions to modify the recipes to work around allergens or other sensitivities. The only book better than this for a beginner might be her book "Practical Paleo"--for all the basic information and wonderful, colorful, informative charts. "The 21-Day Sugar Detox Cookbook" (original, not cookbook) is very valuable, too. I guess it doesn't show too much, I really think highly of Diane Sanfilippo, she seems to have it all together when it comes to truly nutritious foods and meal planning.

The recipes in this book are delicious and not complicated at all. All the recipes I tried are so tasty you will not even miss the sugar. I especially like the sweetner free ketchup and BBQ sauce recipes.
