About the Author

John Kalbfleisch is the author of three works of non- fiction and co-author of a fourth, and has also written the novel A Stain Upon the Land, all centred on Montreal's rich past.

After flirting with a career in teaching, he became a journalist. He spent four decades at the Montreal Gazette as a reporter, editorial writer, and Op-Ed page editor, and also wrote a regular
column on the city's history. He now lives with his wife in Perth, Ontario.
