The ABCs of Entering Law School: Diary of a First Year Student is the newest book by bestselling and award winning author, Teresa Power. It takes readers on a journey into the inner workings of the first year of law school, as seen through the lenses of an actual student. Power uses the ABCs to demystify entering law school: A covers the law school admission process; B gives direction on choosing the right law school; and C goes over the fundamentals of the first year. This easy to read guidebook will help not only those considering law school, those who are about to start law school, and those already in law school, but also those who are interested in knowing more about the legal process so as to understand the complex web of information taught during that first year. All the firstyear core classes are interconnected in the realm outside law school, both on the subsequent bar examination as well as in legal practice. Each chapter of the book contains a wealth of information condensed into a readable form. Even those who have no interest in applying to law school will benefit from learning the basics about civil law, which covers disputes between private parties or organizations, as well as criminal law, which deals with crimes or wrongs that are considered harmful to society as a whole. Law school is characterized by substantial amounts of reading, writing and researching, and The ABCs of Entering Law School will give readers a greater awareness and clarity as to what constitutes the body of law covered during one’s first year. In addition, Power has a chapter in the book on stress management through yoga and mindfulness, a concept which the author is very familiar with; Power’s yoga practice began during her first year of law school over 34 years ago. With The ABCs of Entering Law School, she hopes to teach adults not only about the inner workings of law school, but also about the practice of yoga as a stress relieving tool. This book is a must read for those who wish to have a general and basic understanding of the process of entering law school.
