The Accidental Truth: What My Mother's Murder Investigation Taught Me About Life by Lauri Taylor

Lauri Taylor was just your average suburban PTA mom and marketing exec. Then tragedy struck. When her mother is found dead in Mexico, Lauri finds herself embarking on a journey of discovery. She strives to uncover the identity of her mother’s murderer while struggling against the unbearable guilt of having been powerless to prevent her murder—but what she finds isn’t what she was expecting.

Lauri Taylor’s memoir The Accidental Truth: What my mother’s murder investigation taught me about life tells the true story of a woman’s quest as she seeks understanding and atonement. With the help of famed FBI profiler Candice DeLong, Lauri begins her transformation into a skilled and unrelenting investigator, earning the praise of even the most seasoned cold-case detectives. As she works to unearth the secrets buried in her mother’s life and death, key evidence comes to light and a shocking revelation unfolds.

The Accidental Truth is a profound narrative of true crime, family bonds, and the grief of sudden death. Lauri Taylor’s achingly intimate story chronicles her personal journey as she empowers herself with truth, finds the courage and compassion to forgive her mother and herself, and eventually learns to let go.

The Accidental Truth is a gripping and, at times, heartbreaking story of a woman's search for the truth about her mother's mysterious death in Mexico. From the moment she finds out her mother is missing, you will find yourself turning page after page after promising yourself you will put the book down and come back to it later. Interspersed between the fascinating details of how authorities go about a murder investigation are the bits and pieces of family stories that slowly paint a picture of a woman battling her demons while doing her best to raise her family. One of a kind story !

The Accidental Truth is a moving beautiful accomplishment by first time author Lauri Taylor. I could not stop turning the pages and finished it the same day I started it. This memoir is a raw and transparent account chronicling Ms. Taylor’s life changing experiences investigating her Mother’s unsolved murder in Mexico. It is filled with perseverance, tenacity and above all love. Unraveling the cold case investigation about her Mother’s life and death slowly and deliberately is masterful and emotional. In her quest, she was able to discover truths about herself and her life’s mission for the rest of her days. It left me in tears and filled with joy at the same time. I read many books and memoirs. Ms. Taylor’s friend, the esteemed FBI Profiler Candice Delong, said it best in the forward of The Accidental Truth, “It is a Rembrandt of memoirs.” I wholeheartedly agree. Bravo.

Lauri Taylor has written an incredibly courageous, eye-opening, and moving book. It's tough to imagine what she went through in the days between discovering that her mother was missing, and then the discovery of her mother's body in Mexico. While this book covers what could be the plotline of an episode of a CSI drama, this isn't fiction and doesn't have easy answers. Lauri went through an incredible journey, and this book takes you on an honest and startling trip alongside her as she searches for answers about what really happened to her mother and finally comes upon the startling awful truth. I recommend the book to anyone interested in the details of a real-life criminal investigation or who enjoys a story with unexpected twists and turns. [NOTE: I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the author, but was not required or requested to write any kind of review.]

This is a story of unimaginable moments in a family's life. As difficult as it is to imagine this happening, you are drawn into the story and can't stop reading as each of these events unfold. Be prepared to finish this book once you open the cover.

It was honest. It was truthful. It was brave. With each chapter, the journey kept my head, and my heart alive and intrigued - showing incredible poise, maturity and raw emotion. Coming from a seemingly strained mother/daughter relationship myself, it was comforting to know we're not alone in those feelings but at the same time, drove me to pick up the phone and tell my mother I loved her for life's too short. Lauri's ability to go through something so tragic and come out on the other side feeling more connected and aware of her friends, her family and most importantly, herself, is admirable and heart-warming. Page turner 'til the end!

Is this page turner? Started at 9pm at night and had to take the morning off to finish. Could not put this book down. A true story that is better then most any fiction, as you are taken on a journey that is not sugar-coated in any way, with remarkable honesty, and leads you down a remarkable path. The story ends up having much more meaning then a typical murder mystery. The book is very well written - the author achieves a great balance of efficient, descriptive writing. If you like stories with great perseverance, this is a gem.

A MUST READ! This is an incredible true story of Lauri Taylor's 4 year investigation of her mother's murder. (She was a stay at home mom turned relentless sleuth.) She writes with such honesty, humor, and truth. This story leads you to so much more than the initial plot line. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a mystery, crime novel, true crime, the power of love and guilt, truly anyone who loves to read...It is a journey. For those who have read it, they have described it as incredible, and a book you just can't put down (even for people who consider themselves "non readers.") The cadence of the writing is addicting. I devoured it in two evening sittings.

The Accidental Truth is a beautifully written story by a first time author who did an exceptional job. I picked up the book and finished in the same day. Her determination for an answer is unremarkable and the entire was worthy of being written. It is filled with perseverance, tenacity and above all love. Some parts left you with tears while others left you with joy. Worth a read you will not regret it!

A transparently told, raw and heart-string-tugging real life story. While the book is set against the backdrop of solving the mystery of the tragic loss of her mom who was found dead across the Mexican border, Lauri has bared her soul to help others understand the pain of strained relationships and the detrimental effects of mental illness. Her story is bound to bring understanding and healing to the masses. A must-read.

I couldn't put this book down from the moment I started it. Such an honest & open search for the truthof finding her mother's killer. The emotional & personal turmoil that the author went through to maintain her normal life while uncovering difficult details is unimaginable to comprehend. It was a journey that nodaughter should ever have to face, and Lauri Taylor did it with both grace & dignity.
