It seems that the target age for this study Bible is a little younger than I expected (elementary instead of middle school). Given it's target audience, the study Bible actually has some solid content. At first I was disappointed in the study content until I adjusted my thinking for a younger audience. With the proper perspective I was pleased with what I saw. As a general rule, I don't like study Bibles - the Bible is the best authority on itself and I always get nervous about other people putting their opinions in a Bible right next to the text. I don't like people getting the idea that what those extras are carry the same weight as the Scripture itself. That being said, study Bibles can be useful, and ones for children can have life-long impact. I love the ESV and am glad to see a study Bible using it's text as its basis instead of the standard NIV. This study Bible contains notes about the past "ancient archives" and little blips that try to connect the Bible in a meaningful way to the life of the child reading the Scriptures. There are also well illustrated, full page comic sections that, when put together, tell an abridged version of the Bible. My caution with this part is that some of the abridgments aren't precise in depiction so these should definitely be used supplementally, and not in place of the actual text. Overall, though, this looks like a good choice for parents seeking a study Bible for their elementary aged child. I received a complimentary copy of this in ebook format in exchange for my honest opinion.
