Overview

Rummaging around in her dead grandfather's things, fourteen-year old Annie finds a stone pendent with strange markings on it. The pendent renders her body invisible but it has no effect on her clothes. At first, she is uneasy about walking around naked, even if no one can see her. Things begin to happen when she overcomes that fear. First she plays tricks on fellow students. Next she gets a drug dealer arrested and then she foils the robbery of a corner convenience store. Annie begins to think of herself as someone like Superman. When she sees a crime she will shed her clothes and help the police capture the criminals. Things get much more complimented when she discovers an alien plot to take over the world. Everyone else sees the aliens as normal human beings but the mysterious stone lets Annie see them in their real ugly form. She tries to bring this to the attention of the authorities but no one will believe her. Things become dangerous when alien assassins show up and try to kill her. Somehow she must stay ahead of the assassins while convincing the authorities of the plot. The fate of the world is in her hands.

About the Author

The author is a scientist who has explored many parts of the world while studying animals that live in conditions too harsh for humans to survive. How can animals survive in these places while we can't? Study areas have included, first, tropical rain forests where heat and high humidity can be too much for some humans; second, drought-ridden grasslands; and, third, nuclear accident sites (Chernobyl) where high levels of radiation can be lethal for people while some animals survive nicely.
