To say that this book, "The Adventures of Annie & Ellie-Belly" was a pleasure to read is an understatement! I simply could not put the book down, reading it from beginning to end, in just one sitting. When one chapter ended I just had to know, immediately, what was going to happen in the next chapter or with the next "adventure". This is a beautifully written book with the author taking you smack dab in the middle of these two, depression era young girls and their daily lives full of hard work, love for God and family, fun and a little trouble from mischief making here and there. Oh, how I laughed and sometimes found a tear or two trying to escape my eyes. The author easily transports the reader back in time and relieves, through their eyes, Annie and Ellie-Belly's attempts of filling each day with a new "adventure" which sometimes included their two older brothers Dan and Paul. Life was hard during the depression but Annie and Ellie-Belly truly made the best of each and day using their active imaginations to set the course. Sometimes their antics mused me and, at times, when things were going a little rough, made me appreciate the resilience of these two little sisters, but more importantly , best friends. The author brilliantly showcases the simple pleasures of their "sister" bond that warms the reader's heart with each chapter read. Arriving at the final page of the final chapter, left me craving more chapters and more adventures of sweet little Anne & Ellie-Belly! A must read!
