The Adventures of Kundun the Golden Cat is a charming story, beautifully written and illustrated. The writing made me smile and sometimes laugh out loud. It's easy to fall in love with the Golden Cat and all the animals he encounters while on vacation in the hills of Topanga Canyon. Lessons to young readers about giving rather than wanting are woven through the text. But this is definitely for grown-ups too. Beverly Russell writes about it in a charming way. She has created an opening for children, who can often see the energy field or aura, to talk about it with adults who may no longer see it. A charming story for children that will touch their hearts and gently show how people should act towards each other. Way to go! A little ancient Tibetan magic, a compassionate Top Cat family and several animals on a 21st century Californian ranch converge and stirred the hearts of my grandchildren and myself. My favorite part of this lovely story comes near the end when Kundun the cat gets to trade his dark "coat of negativity" for a light, happy "coat of praise." this is a description of the energy field...negative or positive....that surrounds each of us. As a cat person, how could I not love this gentle story? I am certain that my Grandkids will love it too. It's not just a tale with a message, it is a journey. It is the journey not the destination after all! Whilst this is a book written for children, the message it shares is one we all need reminding throughout our entire lives. The Adventures of Kundun the Golden Cat is a delight that is tells a story about giving that heals the spirit. For all ages who appreciate a meaningful gift. Once again Beverly Russell illuminates a matter of spiritual and cultural importance. This is a very special volume and story especially for our times. I loved the book - loved the illustrations and the whole concept and feel of it. Makes a good holiday gift, since it seeks to instill the pleasure of giving, and the true value of possessions.
