The Afrikaans (Thomas Prescott Series #3) by Nick Pirog

"If you like to stay up and read all night, this book is for you." --Mark Cogley

"An excellent pirates/cruise ship international multi-scenario adventure that holds together beautifully. Action flows through logical yet unanticipated directions, the characters are well defined and realistic. This is a fun read and well worth the time." --Sam Wagner

"BEST OF THE SERIES!" --Louis Pledge "Library Lou"

"Blending modern day piracy and the high seas with international and government intrigue and deception, Pirog has crafted yet another novel that is chock full of WTF moments that will have you skipping sleep and possibly meals just to find out what happens next. It's a real page turner, that's for sure. If I could give it more than five stars, I would." --Todd Barselow

"Adventure on the high seas...a must read (unlesss you're planning an ocean cruise)." --Amazon Customer "NitaDrink"

"A cruise ship highjacked by pirates, the Aids epidemic in Africa and new characters make for a thrilling read. There are lots of twist and turns. The book has you thinking you know who is behind the highjacking and blackmail several different times, only to change your mind again. This book is a great read even if you haven't read the others by this author. I can't wait for his next novel." --Readaholic

Book Description:
Intimate in scale, but grandly outfitted, the luxury cruise liner 'The Afrikaans' hosts no more than 208 pampered guests, among them; former FBI contract agent Thomas Prescott. When the ship is overtaken by African pirates who are demanding the U.S. send medical relief to a small Zulu village in South Africa, it is up to Prescott to keep the 400 hostages alive. As the U.S. tries to figure out how to combat the terrorists' plot from the outside, World Health Organization doctor, Gina Brady, undertakes the impossible task of rescuing three children from the secluded village. As the deadline draws near, Prescott and Brady must race against the clock to discover the truth; is it medical relief the pirates seek or a two billion dollar ransom from one of the richest men in the world. Or could the implications be so profound, and the stakes so high, a war hangs in the balance.

There is so much going on in this book! Plots and subplots! Characters are nicely fleshed out. Not filled with boring unnecessary verbosity. A meat and potatoes tale. Yet it managed to draw attention to the real life plight of thousands. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hi, my name is Karen and I'm an addict. I am addicted to Nick Pirog books. I love the Thomas Prescott stories. I can't put it down once I have started reading. I just finished reading "Afrikaans" and found all the information about Africa and AIDS very informative. I love the humor Thomas Prescott brings to whatever situation he is in. I highly recommend "Unforeseen", "Gray Matter", and "Afrikaans". I can't wait for the next one.

Great read (again the author doesn't disappoint). There is so much going on with many twists and turns. I kind of liked how Thomas wasn't the only one telling the story this time. Made the book more thrilling.

I'm such a huge fan of this author, and this latest book is so incredible! The main character is Thomas Prescott, and he is also featured in Nick Pirogs' books 'Unforessen" (Book 1) and Gray Mater (book 2). This is the third book in the series, but you don't have to read in order to understand. Thomas takes a cruise with his sister and the ship is overtaken by pirates. THomas is a former homicide detective and FBI consultant. It's up to him to save the ship. He's sarcastic, handsome, extremely funny and clever. I can't get enough of him! So suspenseful until the last page. You will not be disappointed. There's also a dog in the book named Baxter, and he's hysterical.
