Three billionaires walk into the exclusive Bellwether Club... Sounds like the start to a bad joke. But it’s actually the premise of Nancy Herkness’ Wager of Hearts series. Self-made billionaire Nathan Trainor, Quarterback Luke Archer and author Gavin Miller have had it with women who only want them for their money and what they can do for them. In a drunken encounter, the three make a bet to find true love within a year’s time. Luke Archer is the quarterback for the New York Empire NFL football team. He’s a four-time Super Bowl champion and has already established his place in history. At the age of thirty-six he’s hit with the harsh reality that his playing time is ending when a good friend retires. Luke is starting to wonder who he’s going to be after football. For so long, football has been his life. Miranda Tate has always had big dreams. She left her family's dairy farm in upstate New York for the bright lights and big city of New York City. Being a concierge was never on her radar, but she’s really good at what she does. She’s currently biding her time working for a less than desirable boss, until a head concierge position opens up. Luke and Miranda’s worlds collide when Luke’s younger brother reports her for not providing services he requested. Immediately, Luke is drawn to her even though he has a self-imposed no dating during the season rule. When Luke gets hurt, he uses Miranda’s services to get closer to her. The two quickly go from a client relationship to something much more. From start to finish, I loved The All-Star Antes Up. Luke and Miranda were extremely likeable characters. Their attraction was immediate and the sex is combustible. There’s so much more to Luke Archer than he shows the world, but Miranda is able to see the real him and give his confidence a well deserved boost. For his part, Luke sees the extraordinary woman Miranda is and knows immediately that she’s someone who wants him for him and not his bank account or celebrity. The All-Star Antes Up shows readers what it’s like to be a football player, complete with all the trappings of being a celebrity and having people use you. It also shows what it means to be a real southern gentleman being blindsided by a love you aren’t looking for. This story shows what we will do for family and those we love. It should be noted that while The All-Star Antes Up is the second book in the Wager of Hearts series it can be read as a standalone. **Received a copy from the author and reviewed voluntarily.**

Luke had overshot an interception in the few seconds of the game and the Patriots won. Luke was the quarterback for The New York Empire. He got a sharp pain in his shoulder and that through his arm off. He went to the Bellwether Club but was only drinking water. The membership of this club required that you have a net worth in the ten figure range and had to be earned not inherited. Ben’s brother Trevor was back at his place also he was in no real hurry to go home. There was also at writer at the club and Luke actually read one of his series. The writer’s name was Gavin Miller but at the present he had writer’s block. The third man in the club is Nathan trainer and he invented the latest computer battery to this point. The three men made a bet to see who would find love and marry within the next year. Whoever did not marry had to auction off something valuable both to the public and themselves. That it would hurt these men to auction off. After je goes to go up to his place he sees his jerk of a brother requesting a female employee to do something improper. Luke was angry and let his brother know it. The employee’s name was Miranda. Then Luke and Miranda spend time getting to know each other. She is prim and proper not what Luke is used to. Miranda is determined she is not just going to be a fling for Luke. I liked this story. It was a nice sweet read. This story is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone with no problems. I think Miranda and Luke toke a bit too long being cautious but that’s okay. The plot was good as was the writing. I really liked the characters. I also liked the ins and outs of the story. I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Nancy Herkness' finesse at writing engaging stories that reach beyond the everyday lives of most of her readers and yet seem possible on the pages of her books shows this authors gift of writing. The seemingly impossible takes a firm basis in reality in the second book in her Wager of Hearts series The All-Star Antes Up. A hero and heroine when stripped of their outer personas share more in common then they think when their inner selves are revealed. Moments of insecurity, loneliness and duty paced with intense passion take this book to the end effortlessly. Ms. Herkness is a writer who offers fun and depth, a combination you cannot beat! *I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as stand alone.*

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It's a good romance with steamy sex. My interest waned a little towards the middle (yes, the sex scenes got a tad boring!) but picked up again at the end. Unfortunately, this is not one of those books that will live forever in my memory. ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Miranda works as a concierge for a major apartment building. But now that her boss is gunning for her to be fired or for her to quit she is always on edge. So when Trevor, the famous quarterbacks brother, makes a complaint to her boss she figured this is it. She's fired. But in the end she ends up keeping her job and earning an admirer that may just lead to her downfall in the concierge business. Luke is the star quarterback, and that is all he is to many people. So when the concierge shows him compassion after being complained about by his brother he is quite a bit surprised. Especially when she didn't want anything from him. Now he can't get her off his mind and hopes she will be a nice distraction from his life. With this fast as lightning romance will they be able to stand the restrictions or will Luke end up winning the wager. This was an amazing romance that gives a little bit of the first book in the series away but will make you never want to stop reading. This is definitely a sexy read but the steamy scenes due not take away from the great plot line of these characters. Especially with the irritating boss, the vindictive brother, the to giving heroine, and the worrying hero. This is a great romance that I swear you will not want to pass up on. I look forward to more from this amazing author. ~A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection.

I don't know what it is about sports romance books but I sure do seem to love them. This one is no exception. This story starts off with three bachelors making a drunken bet to find their one true love by the end of the year. Of course the next day when they're sober, they're regretting their decision but not one of them wants to be the one to bow out. This is the second book in the series with bachelor #2, Luke. Luke is a famous quarterback that is very focused in his game. He wasn't full of himself, wasn't a womanizer and didn't expect people to bow down to him. He's very down to earth and felt he had to earn his way in life almost to the point he didn't believe he's good enough. Miranda, a small town farm girl with dreams of making it in the big city was also very down to earth and went out of her way to help others. They're an odd match but made a great couple. You do get glimpses of bachelor #1 from the first book and his love interest but this book doesn't give anything away about the first book. You are safe to read this as a standalone if you prefer. I'm intrigued about bachelor #3. He wasn't a very likeable guy through the first half of this book so I'll be curious how the author will turn things around for him in book 3. He did get better towards the end so I won't be surprised if I end up liking him in his book. It was a very cute story and there wasn't over the top drama. I absolutely loved this book. For me, the romances I tend to be drawn too are the ones with the bad boy. The boy who messes around a with too many girls, has commitment phobia, and is just an all around douche. The All-Star Antes Up wasn't one of those books, and I'll tell you why. The story was very well written. You could tell that the author writing this wasn't just throwing words on a page, it was well thought out and planned. There was just enough of a mystery to the book. Of course, from the very beginning I know who Luke would end up with, that's how it is in every romance book. But I really enjoyed how the plot progressed. It was easy to follow along and a quick read. I found that I was enjoying every moment of reading. There was always something interesting going on. Miranda, damn she’s a spitfire. She knew what she wanted and she went for it. She was also amazing at her job and very hardworking. She didn’t let things get her down and handled problems very well. Right off the bat I knew that I would enjoy her character. She did everything for her clients and made sure that they were well taken care of. I respected her so much throughout the story. She wouldn’t let things get her down too much. Sure, she was sad during some scenes, but she got right back up and moved along. She was strong, caring, respectful, loving, and kind. I loved her character so much. Luke, oh Luke. First off, he was a Texas rancher and that made me love him right away. He was also an amazing football quarterback who went to The University of Texas. He’s from my home state and went to a school that I respect very much, so that means I just had to love him. He also had those southern manners. Those are very hard to come by these days and it made him so much better. He loved so much, between his brother and his family, that he tried to not let anyone down. He was also so strong, not just in the physical sense, in the emotional sense. He was the same as Miranda, he knew what he wanted and went after it. I loved Luke’s character. He wasn’t your typical messed up jock that seems to be so popular recently. He had a good head on his shoulders and he respected people. He was kind to his fans, especially the children. He was an all around good person. Even though he was nicknamed the Iceman, he wasn’t as cold as he seemed. The All-Star Antes Up was such a good read. I loved every second of it. My roommate even had to tell me at one point to turn off my iPad and go to sleep because I was up late reading. This book is full of steamy, swoon worthy, and hilarious moments. Pick up The All-Star Antes Up today if you’re in the mood for a great read!

Three billionaires meet in a bar…Book Two in Nancy Herkness’ Wager of Hearts series. At its core, this novel is about family responsibility conflicting with personal ambitions. I’m not a sports fan but unique characters and details kept me enthralled to the end. I could really feel how Miranda was held back from her career ambitions by her sense of responsibility to her family. And Luke’s struggle to be accepted by his family for the person he is and not his choice of professional career impacted his every action. These hurdles held back both of the characters from living their dreams and only when they find kindred souls in one another do they break free of their self imposed restrictions. Nancy’s writing transports the reader into the richly detailed lives of her characters. I enjoyed the plot crossovers between this book and the first in the series. This book can be easily read as a stand-alone and it is a perfect platform to launch the third billionaire’s search for love. I’m really looking forward to see how love transforms the third billionaire - cynical author Gavin Miller.

Loved it! This is the second book in the Wager of the heart series but it is easily read standalone. Do yourself a favor though and grab the first one too! The premise of the series is set around three billionaire bachelors who make a wager that they will find the woman meant for them within the year. Though he's skeptical going into the wager Luke is determined to give it his best shot! He's use to woman wanting him for his fame and money but wanting him just for him not so much. There is one woman though that doesn't seem fazed by his notoriety, Miranda Tate. The personal concierge in his building. There is definite attraction though but can he convince her to take a chance on him knowing that it could put her career at risk?? If you enjoy your romance a little bit fun and a whole lot steamy this one is for you! I highly recommend it.

Ms. Herkness draws you into her world and makes you want to stay for a while. My favorite scene is the tour Miranda sets up for Luke of New York City. Its tender and flirty. Both hero and heroine personalities develop as the plot moves forward. I think the introductions to the characters is brilliant. Miranda is a typical stiff "cordial and polite" concierge. Luke is the Texan jock with the body to prove it. By the last third of the book Miranda rolling up her sleeves to help her brother's farm and Luke sitting in his apartment alone is not surprising. He isn't a loud mouth party animal and she isn't a cold princess who resents how the upper class lives. The feel of the book is definitely football season but the time of the year to read it, is entirely up to you. The pacing is perfect for the long weekend. And satisfying.

4.5 Stars!! I truly liked The All-Star Antes Up by Nancy Herkness. This book can be enjoyed as a standalone. To think it all started with a bet, made by three extremely rich gentlemen who only want to be loved for themselves, not their mega wealth. Luke Archer, a superstar quarterback, Nathan Trainor, a techie CEO, and Gavin Miller, a best-selling author, all happen to be members of the posh and swanky Bellwether Club in New York City. One evening of drunkenness brings about a bet, an interesting friendship, and the need to reevaluate their respective lives in order to find the woman of their dreams. This is the second book in the Wager of Hearts trilogy, and it focuses on Luke's ability to find his one true love. Miranda Tate is one of the assistant concierges in Luke's luxury high-rise. She loves her job and takes it very seriously. Due to her professionalism and friendly personality, most of the residents prefer to deal with her with their requests. Miranda has worked hard to get to where she is and she even supports her brother's cheese making efforts on the farm they grew up on. In fact, she hopes to own her own concierge business one day. She and Luke share an instant attraction, which slowly explodes into a full blown relationship. They are from opposite sides of the tracks, but in the end they make it work. Luke and Miranda are hot both in and out of the bedroom. Their chemistry is sizzling and there was never a moment I did not want them to have a future together. Their own vulnerabilities play havoc with their blossoming relationship, however, they are able to overcome them out of their love for each other. The head concierge, Orin, is a total weasel, and Ms. Herkness does a terrific job of presenting his less than stellar attributes on the written page. Overall this is an exciting story, with genuine characters and a plot that will hold your attention from beginning to end. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

This is a fun and sexy contemporary romance that follows Luke, a top NFL quarterback, as he meets Miranda, an assistant concierge, in the process of dealing with his brother's mess. Luke is immediately attracted to Miranda, but he doesn't have time for dating during football season. When I started reading this book, I had a bit of deja vu, as the first chapter was so familiar I thought I'd already read the top. However, the introductory chapter catches the reader up on anything s/he might have missed if they haven't read book 1. Because of this, this book is a stand alone novel. I enjoyed the premise of the story and really loved the way the author told the tale. If you are a fan of contemporary romance, you will love this book. I recommend this to fans of the genre.
