The second exhibition in the JMKAC series investigating the nature of photography and its continually expanding boundaries. The catalogue documents the use of nonconventional supports, including images on sensitized metal, glass, fabric, plastics, and ceramics and works on paper in which the support was dramatically transformed. Part I is devoted to nineteenth and early twentieth century precedents. Part II examines the radical transformation of photography in the 1960s and early 1970s with leading experimentalists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Sonia Landy Sheridan, Betty Hahn, Robert Heinecken, and Jerry McMillan. Part III concentrates on current work by F. Deschamps, Catherine Jansen, Susan Rankaitis, Lou Brown DiGiulio, Yura Adams, John Bloom, Barbara DeGenevieve, and David Joyce, among others. A glossary and select bibliography are also included.
