This is one of the most wonderful CD's that I have ever run across. The music, the vocalists and the tone that is expressed is absolutely wonderful. As a young singer I am enchanted and I will sing along with it for many years to come.

... is to give this CD a chance. This was one of those CD's I bought without knowing whether I would like it: usually I live to regret it when I do that, but this was an exception. I had only heard Sarah sing in clips on BN.com and such, and didn't know whether I liked ALW or not. I really like this CD and I highly recommend it. There are four songs from the Phantom of the Opera, but it is not wasted time to hear them even if you own the soundtrack. ''The Phantom of the Opera'' is the same as on the soundtrack, but the others are different. For example, Sarah sings ''All I Ask of You'' with Cliff Richards and not Steve Barton, and ''Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again'' has a different ending (very beautiful repeated phrase). Of course Sarah also has a distinctive way of interpreting ''The Music of the Night'' which is very moving. ''Unexpected Song'' is one of the songs I always skip when I listen to this CD. Although it is an amazing song and very emotional, and I used to love it. ''Chanson d'Enfance'' is in French and one of my favourites. Sarah also sings ''Another Suitcase in Another Hall'' and ''Don't Cry For Me Argentina'' from ''Evita''. These also are very good. ''Amigos Para Siempre'' with José Carreras is lovely, and ''Love Changes Everything'' is another favourite of mine. Sarah's interpretation of ''Memory'' is tearworthy, it is so beautiful. It is one of my favourite songs in the world - so gentle, yet full of power. I didn't care for either of the other songs from ''Cats'' (the musical doesn't intrigue me particularly, only ''Memory''). ''Tell Me On a Sunday'' and ''Anything But Lonely'' don't particularly stand out to me but are very pretty. And of course there is ''Pie Jesu'' which is haunting and wonderful. Sarah's voice is one which can fill the heart with real emotion - one can identify with it in any mood and time and be refreshed by it as well.

This Sarah Brightman album is an excellent introduction to the work of Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Not only does she make the most well-known songs sound new (Memory, Phantom title track, Music of the Night), but she breathes new life into the less well-known pieces (Unexpected Song). The songs are culled out of her two ALW albums, and her voice is as angelic as ever.

I bought this album in 1999 when my craze in Sarah was already on the rise. However, in spite of plenty of gorgeous moments, this just doesn't hold my attention any more than ''Time To Say Goodbye'' did. Even ''Surrender'' was more notable.

Sarah Brightman has a fantastic voice - it doesn't need the extra echo chamber effects that I detect here. I had to readjust the balances on my car stereo to keep the vibrato from driving me nuts. Also, the balance is sometimes off between her and her singing partner. In particular, it doesn't sound like she and Michael Crawford were in the studio at the same time when they did the 'Phantom' Number. On the whole, it is a good CD and since many of the roles were either written for her or performed on stage by her, she must have the definitive interpretation. Also, I was bummed out that the words are not included.

I loved the entire CD after my mother had me listen to it when I was over there one day. I have always loved Sarah and Andrew. They make beautiful music together.
