If Will Oldham's lo-fi Appalachian folk is a little too esoteric for you, older brother Ned's more direct approach to similar territory with his band might go down a bit easier. This is a relatively straightforward country/folk
ock album with hints of Palace penetration. It's warmer than almost anything else in the Palace canon, but it's also kind of lifeless, and its deliberate pace often works against it. It is, essentially, an unchallenging alternative to Palace's alternative folk.
