The Artist by Juliette Banks

Lust. Murder. Love.

Lizzie is a pretty, but quite simple village girl when circumstances lead her to the artist, Theo.

She made a bad marriage to Lionel, a man who mistreated her, and who then threw her out when she refused to sell her body on the streets for him. Now she is trying to make her way alone.

Theo is the rebellious son of a Viscount, who left his privileged background to pursue his chosen career as an artist. His favourite subjects are pretty young women whom he loves to paint in the nude. He is delighted, therefore, when the beautiful Lizzie knocks on his door one day and offers her services as a model.

It is only a matter of days before the mutual attraction ignites between them and they become lovers. Despite village gossip, they are happy. Until Lionel, hearing that his wife is now living with the artist, erupts in a jealous rage and snatches her back while Theo is away and unable to protect her.

Upon finding Lizzie gone, Theo sets off in hot pursuit, determined to find the model for whom his feelings are growing daily. He soon catches up with Lizzie and Lionel, but during the hot-headed rescue, things take a tricky turn with an unexpected consequence.

Lionel is dead.

Unwilling to be charged with murder, and possibly hanged, Theo and Lizzie flee to Italy, where they try to start a new life together. But the past has a way of catching up with everyone, and they are no exception.

Can the love between a son of a Viscount and an illiterate country girl survive after such a troubled start? And will they have to face justice for the murder of Lizzie's husband?

Publisher's Note: This is an erotic tale of a young couple in mid-nineteenth century England and Italy, with some explicit themes, including spanking, MFM ménage, and some F/F lovemaking.

About the Author

I write about sensual, romantic, passionate people, because I like to think that I am a sensual, romantic and passionate person. I love to write about strong, intelligent, characters, who lead interesting lives. Some of my stories are contemporary, while others are historical. I like to explore the sexuality and sensuality that lurks beneath the surface of most of us. Some of my lead characters face many challenges throughout their journey, but I always try to end my stories on a positive, happy note. I am an optimist and prefer happy endings.

I am British, but I have travelled around the world for many years and been privileged to have visited some wonderful places. I hope I will continue to do this for many years to come. When I am not writing, I love to be in my garden or enjoying the beautiful British countryside.

I received an ARC copy for an honest review. Lizzie was charmed into marriage by Lionel, a very self-assured gypsy, who only showed his true colors once they were wed. When she refused to do his vile bidding, he tossed her out of the caravan, leaving her abandoned with nothing to help her make her way. She becomes a model for a painter by the name of Theodore, and they soon find love and happiness…until Lionel returns and goes after the wife he’d discarded. This body of work is worth the read, flowing well and making it a true page turner.

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I thought I wasn't going to like it after it started so slow, but it picked up and got really interesting. I couldn't put it down because I wanted to make sure they got their HEA. (They do). I have never read a story with such a couple as Lizzie and Theo. You think they are too different, but they are so much alike they just gel. there are a few twist and you thihk they are done but they just hang in there. Worth a read. You won't be disappointed.

This is a book about a couple that would normally in the course of daily life not have any reason to meet, but due to choices they have made, meet and fall in love. This story tells the adventures that they experience as they journey from stodgy English country life through gay Paris and into the adventurously artist world of Florence in 1850. Along the way they develop amazing friendships with colorful characters and an everlasting love that even faces murder charges and possible death. The author has an enjoyable approach to her story telling that paints wonderful pictures of their experiences for the reader. Please note, I received a copy of this book from the publishing in exchange for my honest review.

This was an ARC review read for me and at first, I almost stopped, but I'm glad I kept reading. Lizzie hasn't had it easy but meeting Theo changes everything. An artist who lives a fairly hedonistic lifestyle, he takes Lizzie to places she never dreamed of, but she adapts quickly and thrives. Murder, mystery and lust.
