The Awakening of Sunshine Girl (Haunting of Sunshine Girl Series #2) by Paige McKenzie

Now in paperback, the highly anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Haunting of Sunshine Girl ("A 21st century, iPhone-enabled 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'"-The Daily Beast), in which ghost-hunter Sunshine Griffith discovers her own paranormal abilities and a most unexpected and lethal enemy.

Sunshine Griffith has been awakened. Her powers are now fully alive and spirits follow her everywhere, desperate for help moving on to the afterlife. Hoping to get her luiseach abilities under control, she agrees to begin training with her mentor-her birth father, Aidan.

Aidan takes her to an abandoned campus deep in the Mexican jungle, far from her would-be boyfriend and protector, Nolan. But Aidan's work turns out to be more terrifying than Sunshine could have imagined. Is she prepared to finally learn the truth about what's threatening the future of the luiseach and the human race...and the deadly part she may play in it?

Like Sunshine Girl, it's good until, like, the middle of the book. Then it kind of falters (gets to the point where you want the novel to be done already). But the author put a ton of stuff in here so it was probably a bit overwhelming. I enjoyed the relationship between Sunshine's father and Sunshine. Didn't care for the new character in Sunshine's life.

I don't remember when I first saw The Haunting of Sunshine Girl, maybe on Barnes and Noble's website or even their shelves. All I knew was, the cover was unique, off in a way and the girl was lovely. I tend to gravitate towards pretty things... as marketing is supposed to incite, especially if there's a hideous creature, I'd have probably wanted it even more! LOL Then as the book sat on my shelf, in queue, I found out The Awakening of Sunshine Girl was on the way. So I pre-ordered it and waited. While waiting, I conducted research on Paige McKenzie and discovered: I live under a rock - she's so famous! (an internet sensation!) Since I finished the first book so fast, I knew I'd run through this one just as quick. The Awakening of Sunshine Girl picked up where book one left off. Well, right after the holiday. It didn't move as well as the first; it was rather slow but I held on, knowing the ending would be so worth it. It's also obvious, there will be another book before this story is over. In the second book, Sunshine gains a lot of knowledge and experience. There's an odd plot going on in this book and I almost lost interest. This one just didn't keep me riveted to the pages as book one, but there was a lot to take in. I also didn't understand why they had to go across the world to 'train'. *For the full review and review of book one: **Books are from my personal library for review.

“The Awakening of Sunshine Girl” is a great follow-up to “The Haunting of Sunshine Girl.” It has all of the humor and chills of the original, while furthering the story of how Sunshine came to be. The plot breezes along at an easy to read pace that doesn’t slow down. All of the favorite characters from the first book are back, just as enjoyable as before, along with the addition of some new ones. All of the history of the Luiseach was fascinating and made me want to learn more. I wish I could say more but almost everything I can add would spoil the story in some way. I’ll leave you with this: you’ll probably wish you had the next book already in your hands when you turn the last page. “The Awakening of Sunshine Girl” is a good choice for all of those who enjoy a good ghost story that, while it includes disturbing imagery, actually falls into the clean category. Only minor language and a few kisses are involved. It’s also perfect for reluctant readers, though be sure they begin with the first in the series! The first book was excellent. So the second book should be even better. I got the sneak peak of the first chapter and I was already on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to read the whole book!

The Awakening of Sunshine Girl is the second book following The Haunting of Sunshine Girl. When I got the book in the mail I was so happy. I really enjoyed The Haunting of Sunshine Girl. I was a bit leary though since sometimes book 2 in a series is slower and not a lot happens. That is not the case with The Awakening of Sunshine Girl. This book has more action, adventure and supernatural elements than the first book and I didn't think that was even possible. There was many plot twist and turns in the book that I never saw coming which makes it even better. I loved getting Sunshine's back story and learning all about her birth parents as well has how she ended up being adopted by Kat. This book really leaves you wanting more and looking forward to Spring 2017 when The Sacrifice of Sunshine Girl.
