Overview

A morose parrot with a reputation for biting perches in a small cage in the lobby of Brookside Retirement Community. For Josephine, a reluctant resident, he sums up the place which friend and handwriting expert, Lill, has dubbed Babbling Brook (in honor of the missing waterway and the more exasperating residents). However, Brookside turns out to be more interesting than Josephine expected, as it becomes the setting for art theft, other dodgy dealings, and…naked poker. Investigating the unusual events, Josephine and Lill befriend Devi Subramanian, a young woman Josephine tries to prevent from making the same mistakes she has made.

Good read. Characters realistic and interesting. Didn't want to put the book down.

The fiesty residents in a retirement community work together to fight crimes large (relatives swindling estates) and small (a grocery deliverer who rounds the tallies up into his own pocket). The story is told through a variety of voices, but since the speakers are identified at the beginning of each chapter, that was not confusing for me. It was well written, without the spelling errors and grammar gaffes that plague many e-books..

Several seniors join together playing poker where the loser has to tell a negative story about something they done. they discover things are being stolen and set out to figure out who. in the same time the policemen they are friends with falls in love with their activity director. the story is told by one of the characters in each chapter helping you to learn more of each ones thoughts. The chapters still flow reverberating it an easy read I had to. read it all in one sitting.

Great read!!! Several characters with secrets in their past come together at a retirement home and solve a mystery while dealing with those secrets. Likeable characters that pull you in to want to know more about them and why they act and react the way they do. I just ordered book 2 and 3 and cannot way to follow the lives of all the characters.

I want to be friends with these people. Josephine was forced to move into Babbling Brooklyn by her son. What know one knows is Jo is able to take care of herself as she proves when she assists in the solving of several high-end thefts taking place. Lill, Devi, and Mac round out this group of crime solvers...even with 40 years difference in age. Can't wait to read book 2. Karon J

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that, for the most part, the characters always kept the police informed. So many mysteries write the main character as a renegade who's smarter than the police. I also liked that the investigating done by Josephine & Lillian were age appropriate. I realize that this is fiction, but I like that the story lines were realistic & believable. Good job.

Somehow I think it would have helped if the person the chapter pertained to could have been listed at the top of each page. When I put the book down I sometimes forgot who was spotlighted and had to turn back a ways. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more.

276 pages . Who knew the elderly residents of a senior living facility could have an interesting time solving mysteries and playing naked poker. A charming story. I'm buying more by this author.
