Tessa O'Connell is a girl as ordinary as they come-or so she thinks. Her aim for senior year is to keep her head down yet somehow manage to convince her childhood love Jay Stone to love her back. What she isn't prepared for is for Jay's brother, Cole, to return to town and change the life she's always been seemingly content to live. Tall, gorgeous as all hell and a bad boy with ocean blue eyes and the perfect edge of adorability, he was her greatest tormentor, her number one enemy. But the guy that's come back is like no one Tessa's ever come across. He challenges her, he tests her limits, he forces her to bring out the girl she's long ago buried under a veil of mediocrity and most of all he compels her to consider that perhaps the boy that infuriates her to the point of no return might just be her guardian angel.
Warning: The story comes with a bad boy notorious for making you swoon, inducing hysterical laughter and making you question whether you could purchase a clone on eBay.

I sometimes felt the main characters were a lot younger than their actual age due to how immature they acted. I also hated that ending Cole was way too in love/devoted to Tessa for me to buy what he did.

Tessa's former best friend Nicole dropped her to hang with the popular crowd and starting going out with Jay, the only boy Tessa ever liked. Now in her senior year of high school, Tessa finds out that Jay's stepbrother Cole, the only person she hates as much as Nicole, is coming back to town after being away at military school for three years. Cole used to bully her, but now he seems to have taken on the role of her protector. As Tessa struggles with her growing feelings for Cole, she must also contend with an alcoholic brother, her parents' incessant fighting, Nicole's bullying, and the family problems of her friend Beth. This book perfectly describes the feeling of young love. Tessa's sharp wit and self-deprecating humor make her an adorable heroine. And Tessa and Cole are the cutest couple ever! I fell in love with them both, and so will you. I don't think I've ever disliked a character more than Nicole. And, as for Jay, Tessa says, "In hindsight, I’m trying to remember why I liked him so much in the first place." I wonder the same thing. The cute, cryptic chapter titles are direct quotes from the book, making us wonder what's coming up next. The chapters themselves are cleverly constructed to take us right to the core of the action and leave us wondering how we got there. The beginning of Chapter Twenty is especially amusing. And the phone banter in Chapter Thirty between Tessa and her two best friends, Megan and Beth, is hilarious. As an added bonus, we get to read Chapters Four and Eleven from Cole's point-of-view. Sure, as some reviewers point out, the story is full of clichés, but the writing is so natural, Tessa's voice is so real, and the characters are so wonderful, that it doesn't matter. As Tessa says, "I’ve never been good with endings. I read the last Harry Potter book a page a day just to extend the time I had left with the characters. So yes, it took me a while to get through it but I relished every second." That's what it was like with this book. It's a bit long by genre standards, but I enjoyed every minute. And when I finished, it was like saying goodbye to old friends. Be warned, this is no happily-ever-after, and as the last chapter title implies, you'll find out "what it feels like to get your heart broken." Love, love, loved it! Can't wait for the next book in the series. Warnings: coarse language, bullying, violence, attempted rape, sexual references. Full blog post:
