The Bay of Shadows by Samantha G Wood

How far would you go for love?

In a rambling house in a small Australian beach town, Elena Jameson is recovering from her recent divorce. To her delight, she is given the opportunity to foster a little boy, Daniel, whose mother is dead and whose violent father is in rehab. As Elena and Daniel explore the beautiful bay and wild bushland, they form a profound bond that will change their lives forever.

Then Daniel’s father discovers his whereabouts and begins a campaign of terror – not to get his son back, but to prevent Elena giving Daniel a new life.

As the violence escalates, Elena finds that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect Daniel from the brutality of his past and an uncertain future. Sometimes the only way to get what you want is to pay the price in blood.

A gothic tale of love and loss, bravery and hope.

Loved it

I loved the story though I was a little concerned that it might end badly. I could hardly put it down.

Enough angst to make a grown person get ulcers, enough scary to send that person under the covers to hide and enough love to satisfy a person's sweet tooth. Very satisfying indeed!

Excellent book. Had me in tears at one point, anxious , and frightened at others. Nicely done!

Very good. A lot of drama. Story about Elana and Daniel her foster child. She fought to keep him from a father that was to get him after being in jail but going through steps to get out. A very nasty man that hurt Daniel and his mother. Elana and Daniel were very close and she would not let him be torn away from her. Side characters added to the story, her ex-husband and his friend, and a man she meets and they get together.

The first review left me puzzled? This book was so engrossing I dont even remember one f-word. This is this author's first novel, i will certainly look for her next one. So sorry, though, to learn that Australia's Child Welfare System is as broken as ours. CB
