When her fifteen year-old nephew Theo goes missing, Becca Weitz is frantic. Then Carl Carman – who runs a private investigating company, and who is also the camp director where Theo goes – shows up, Becca’s life is turned upside down. Shifters exist, and Theo is one of them! So is Carl, as well as a lot of people in Gladwin, Michigan it turns out! Becca is scared out of her mind, but the real problem is that Carl is desperately attracted to Becca, who is his lifemate, and she hates him! After reading all the other books, I finally get to see where it all started! Moreover, it made me appreciate Kathy Lyons’ genius all the more, as all the groundwork for the rest of the series is there right from book one! Apart from Becca and Carl’s story, and subsequently all the romances, there is a fabulous continuous story arc in this series, and it’s obvious that the author knew exactly where she was going right from the start. In THE BEAR WHO LOVED ME, Kathy Lyons establishes her world, the setting, the characters, the shifter community and their habits ever so smoothly. I loved that Becca reacted logically when presented with the fact that shifters exist: she doesn’t go: “Oh, alright.” It’s an arduous process for her, but even though she’s a baker – and when stressed, she bakes frantically – when faced with danger, she acts! Kathy Lyons’ writing is always superlative and subtly witty, the dialogues are fabulous, and the visuals are fantastic. Becca and Carl are very much attracted to each other, but there are some hairy issues – Carl has to behave himself and his bear! – and I think one of the most wonderful things that happens with the romance is that as Becca understands the shifter world better, she makes him see all that he really is, who he is as a whole; it’s just amazing and touching in an odd way. It’s really what love is all about. THE BEAR WHO LOVED ME is action-packed, wild, perfectly paced, sensuous, raw, and explosive. The characters are extraordinarily complex, and there’s the amazing Officer Tonya Kappes (yes!). I loved every minute of THE BEAR WHO LOVED ME, as I love every book in this series. Kathy Lyons never disappoints!

Not all shifter books are good, but this one made me not only love the characters but want to follow them and know more about their lives. I have not read anything by this author before and I am really looking forward to reading more of her books soon! It is a shifter romance novel with adult content that was well done. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.

The Bear Who Loved Me is a sweet, sexy, steamy, well written, paranormal, bear shifter story featuring a strong alpha male named Carl and the sweet, but strong heroine named Becca. Becca runs a bakery on her own and is raising her nephew (now her adopted son) on her own. They are very close, so when he goes missing she is understandably alarmed and concerned. Carl is the alpha in a bear shifter clan and he had been keeping an eye on Becca’s nephew because he is also a bear shifter (something Becca or her nephew don’t know). I loved the strong connection between the characters and how passionate they felt for one another. Yes, Carl’s shifter felt strongly because his bear sensed Becca as his mate, but it was still a connection from love, passion, and lust. Becca isn’t a doormat and doesn’t allow Carl to boss her around. I LOVE a strong heroine! The only issue I had with this story is the lust and sexual encounters between Carl and Becca while her son/nephew was missing/kidnapped. As a mother, nothing would have stopped me from hunting down the culprit who had my child. Not even a sexy bear! Other than that, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series. *Copy provided for review for Crystal's Many Reviewers

The Bear Who Loved Me is book one in the Grizzlies Gone Wild series by Kathy Lyons. It’s full of action, suspense, mystery, and romance. Becca is a human, a backer, a aunt and now mother to her sisters son. She is a strong women who has put everyone before herself. She does what needs to be done to take care of her family. I felt for her and all the struggles she went through; it made her that much more real. When she learns about shifters and her nephew, well she can’t quit believe. I liked how she digested the information thrown at her. She went through a few different reactions, but eventually took it all in. No hysterics! Carl is a bear shifter, the Alpha to his clan, and protector. I liked him. He is trying to change how things are run and ruled. To think and not just kill. To balance both. Becca and Carl I liked from the beginning. Their back and forth was playful and funny. When the situation calls for seriousness they are focused. The love is intense and sweet. I enjoyed learning about this world. I liked how man and bear are two separate entities yet living in the same body and so they must find balance. The secondary characters where also fun and just added to the story. We are taken on an adventure full of mystery, suspense, and romance. The Bear Who Loved Me was one of those books that once you pick it up, you aren’t going to set it down. I can’t wait to read more in this series. Rated: 4 Bear Stars *Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy provided by Forever via NetGalley with the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments and ratings are my own.

A fun and sexy paranormal romance. "Stay strong," said the detective. "They respect strength." What the hell was she supposed to do? Break a chair? Bench-press a Volvo? THE BEAR WHO LOVED ME by Kathy Lyons is a fun and sexy paranormal romance. It’s the exciting first installment in a trilogy about HOT grizzly bear shifters who are struggling to keep their inner monsters under control. The shifters need their mates to help them find a peaceful state between their animal and human sides so they don’t go feral. This is the story of Carl Carman, the Maximus alpha of the Gladwin Grizzly Shifters Mid-Michigan Clan, and Becca Weitz, a human who is blissfully unaware that there are paranormal elements in this world. She is raising her sister’s son and running a bakery. Carl stepped up as Maximus eight years ago after he'd finished college. He has grand dreams of innovating and being smarter in how the clan operates, but he is meeting resistance from clan members. He definitely does not want to be like his grandfather and uncle who held onto power by terrorizing their own clan – including Carl. He’s under pressure to mate and knows he should mate with a willing, powerful she-bear. BUT, the human, Becca, both calms and excites him. Will she give their relationship a chance? Becca has been raising her nephew since he was a baby. She’s an expert at decorating cakes. But, her life changes big-time from the normal she craves when her teenage charge goes missing. Can things get any worse? The answer is a big YES as she’s kidnapped and shockingly learns that her nephew is not a human, but a were bear! Carl and Becca make a great couple. Their interactions are sweet, steamy and feisty! Their alliance was dynamic. They certainly had a set-your-sheets-on-fire chemistry, but Becca craved normalcy and Carl was an alpha male with a clan who depended upon him. When push came to shove, Becca certainly showed that you don’t have to be a shifter to be ferocious! I met this author at the Coastal Magic Convention at Daytona Beach earlier this year and have been dying to read one of her books since! I finally did and really enjoyed it! Kathy’s writing is fluid and the plotline is captivating. Plenty of action sequences and suspense galore make for a well-rounded read. I can't wait to read the next book, LICENSE TO SHIFT, which is already on my reader! If you enjoy sensual shifter romances loaded with thrills and chills, I’d highly recommend that you check out THE BEAR WHO LOVED ME! My full review is posted at Reading Between The Wines Book Club. Loved this book, what a great new series! Becca has her hands full raising her nephew (Theo) and owning her own bakery. Just when things can’t seem to get any more hectic her stubborn and moody teenage nephew disappears without a trace. Becca has no idea what to do, his friends haven’t seen him and he isn’t answering her calls. Just when she is about to go crazy with worry her nephew’s camp counselor, Mr. Max, shows up out of the blue. Carl (aka Mr. Max) is the alpha and leader of the Gladwin Grizzly shifters. He has been watching out for Theo every since he first started attending his camp. He knows Theo is getting ready to experience his first shift and that neither Theo nor his aunt is aware that he is a grizzly shifter. When Carl finds out Theo is missing her knows the shift is near and he must find a way to lure Becca to his home to wait on Theo’s arrival without scaring her and exposing his clan to the “humans”. Carl has definitely got his hands full between the uproar within the clan over his leadership, missing shifters and finding out that Becca, a human, is his bear’s true mate and his Maxima. I loved the interaction between Carl and Becca and how even though Becca was skeptic at first she reacts calmly and as rationally as possible about the whole shifter world. These two were smoking hot together and I found myself falling in love with Carl right along with Becca. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good shifter romance novel. I received an eARC of this book compliments of the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

Lately, I’ve been on a shifter reading binge. When I read the blurb for The Bear Who Loved Me, I knew I had to read the book. This book was more than I expected, and I loved every moment of it. Since the death of her parents and sister, Becca Weitz has been trying her best to run the family bakery and raise her teenage nephew. After yet another one of their arguments, Theo seemingly refuses to answer her phone calls. Theo has been getting more agitated lately, but not speaking to her or returning her phone calls has never been something he’s done before. Becca gets a surprised visit from Theo’s summer camp counselor Carl “Max” Carman and discovers Theo has been kidnapped. But the surprises don’t end there. In order to get Becca to cooperate and not get local police involved, Carl has to kidnap her and introduce her to a world she never knew existed. “Buckle up ‘cause it’s about to get weirder.” Shifters exist and her nephew is one of them. Leading his clan and putting out fires is what Carl does. In trying to build a democracy instead of a dictatorship, he has others gunning for him. When he gets word that a couple of teens are missing, he has to use every resource at his disposal to find the kids and find out what’s going on. From the beginning, I loved the characters of Becca and Carl. Their back and forth communication is at times playful and funny. But when the situation calls for it, they’re serious. Their love is intense and romantic. The secondary characters definitely put this book over the top and I loved them just as much as I loved Becca and Carl. From Mark, Carl’s best friend who is dying, to Alan, Carl’s younger brother and clan lawyer, to Tonya, Carl’s friend and highest ranking police shifter in the area, all the characters added something special to the story. The mystery of Theo’s kidnapping and subsequent fall out was a little mind blowing. The Bear Who Loved Me is one of those books that once you pick it up, you aren’t going to want to put it down. I definitely can not wait to read the next book in the series. **Received a copy from Forever Yours in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion.**

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review The cover is fierce and beautiful with both beasts on it and is my favorite kind of cover! This is my first time reading Kathy Lyons, and it will definitely not be my last. This is the first book in a new series and is for adults only due to the content. When I started reading the book, I had no idea how much I would love it! Becca and Carl make for an awesome story! Her nephew (son) is her everything, and I definitely connected with her being a single parent. I love her fierceness, and how she handles everything. Carl definitely has some war wounds and is trying to be a better Alpha even though others do not see it that way. This is a unique shifter world! There is plenty going on that you get sucked right into the story. I couldn’t put it down. Kathy Lyons has a way with words, and she has me hooked! I can’t wait to see what Kathy Lyons cooks up in book 2!! I highly recommend this book to all shifter lovers!!!

Lyons' unique take on shifters and their human/shifter halves is very well developed. She brings each and every aspect of this world to life and combines it throughout the fun and exciting plot. Vivid descriptions bring the danger and romance of this tale together in an absolutely unforgettable manner. The characters in this novel were a blast to get to know. The way that Becca cares about her family is unforgettable. It is heightened by the fine line that Carl walks within himself. At the same time, together, these two are explosive. I love how they get to know each other as individuals, even as their chemistry explodes off the charts. Surrounded by the well developed and engaging secondary characters, Lyons has created a cast that really does her story justice. This is both the first novel in this series and the first I've read by this author. I'm definitely hooked and can't wait to see what she comes up with next. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

What happens when a human raises a young man who may or may not turn into a bear one day? You watch and wait and make sure he comes to you if he changes. That’s what the leader of the clan did and it should have worked. Except the kid gets kidnapped by crazies and even if she is human Becca Weitz is as tough as any mamma bear. How can the big buff and tough alpha bear not fall for her? Yes, it has been done before but engaging characters and sly humor make this book worth the read.
