Big Weekend by Libby Kirsch

You can run. You can hide. Or you can get highlights.

Columbus police make a quick arrest in a murder, but when a tip comes in from someone who knows more about the case than detectives, it's clear to TV reporter Stella Reynolds that the woman behind bars didn't pull the trigger.

With lowlifes stealing the headlines, why is Stella's boss only concerned with her hair? He insists a makeover will help her career, but she knows that a visit to the salon will only get in the way of solving the murder. Or will it? With the real suspect determined to stay hidden, maybe a makeover contest is the perfect cover for catching a killer.

Vicious lies. Unyielding deadlines. And a killer makeover.

The best of the series so far. The books give you an insiders look at what working as a news person would really be like . I watch our local news with a whole new understanding of what goes into putting the show together, and how hard it would be. These books are fun and interesting .

When the story began, I wasn't sure I was ready for it (would it be the same story in a different format). Very quickly, I was too involved to put it down. Another fun story in this series. Unique, too.

Reviewed by Susan Sewell for Readers' Favorite A husband is shot and murdered in front of his house, and the killer is walking free in the thrilling sleuth mystery, The Big Weekend (A Stella Reynolds Mystery) by Libby Kirsch. Stella is covering a story live at a home, where a mother of three is accused of killing her ex-husband on her front steps. The eyewitness is willing to give an exclusive interview to Stella, which is an added bonus for her station. However, when the prime suspect's brother is shot down in the same place the following night, Stella begins to question her eyewitness's account. Stella begins to delve into the accused mother's background and that of her estranged husband and her neighborhood. When another body is discovered, Stella is now convinced that a murderer is at large and the woman being held in jail is innocent. Can Stella find the real culprit before an innocent woman is put away permanently for a murder she didn't commit? The Big Weekend (A Stella Reynolds Mystery) by Libby Kirsch is a dazzling sleuth mystery that keeps the reader guessing until its exciting denouement. This tale has a captivating storyline that twists and turns through the stimulating plot, holding the reader's interest. All of the characters are engaging and relatable. There is the makeup artist's character, who is exceptionally enjoyable and makes for great comic relief, while Stella's character admirably struggles to make a difference in her career. These elements are all the perfect combination for a superb cozy mystery. This novel is one in a series of Stella Reynolds mysteries, but it makes a fantastic standalone. It is a satisfying read for those who love an excellent cozy murder mystery.

Robert Herbert has been shot at point-blank range and an eye witness insists that his ex-wife, Tabitha Herbert, is the one who shot him. The next day a second murder occurs at the same location and this time the victim is Darren, Tabitha's brother. At Tabitha's arraignment, attorney Eleanor Pochowski, is asked to help Tabitha complete the necessary paperwork to obtain a court-appointed attorney. As Eleanor was leaving the courthouse, she tells Stella that the judge assigned her to the case. During Tabitha's bond hearing, Eleanor fails to show up and the hearing has to be rescheduled. Stella discovers that Eleanor was actually at the courthouse, but neglected to appear for the hearing. When Stella finally gets a chance to interview Tabitha, she learns that Eleanor volunteered to take the case, rather than having it assigned to her. Are the two murders related? What is the real story with Eleanor? Why did Eleanor miss the bond hearing? Is she hiding something? With Tabitha in jail, she could not have shot Darren, so who is the shooter? Can Stella get to the bottom of the mystery? I received an Advanced Copy of this book from the author and elected to provide this review.
