I loved this story. In a lot of ways, this town and these people could be my own hometown. Melanie is a country girl gone city and trying to hang on to something she believes she wants. When her wedding day becomes a disaster as she finds out her future husband is a cheater, Melanie does the unthinkable and storms off to climb a billboard of a local church on the property next door. Kyle just wants to do what his grandpa has asked and take care of the farm for a little while. Farming is not for him, professional baseball was but he has ruined his opportunities in the league. Both just want one thing, to run away, hide and lick their wounds. Sometimes God has other plans and while a whole community watches, He opens the eyes of these two people and shows them what true love, loyality and committment is. Mynk has done a fantastic job creating characters that are funny, quirky and completely loveable. You will laugh and cry as she takes you through emotions from shattered dreams to fulfilled desires. I received this book from the author/publisher with no request for reviews. All opinions expressed are my own.

When Melanie Turner learns of her fiancé’s infidelity minutes before her wedding, she charges out of the church seeking a place where she can lick her wounds in private. The place she chooses? The platform below the billboard on the neighboring property. She has to climb a tree then a ladder – in her wedding dress with her Daddy’s shotgun – to get there but once there, she refuses to come down until her fiancé comes up the ladder and apologizes. When he refuses, she determines to stay there 13 days or until he apologizes – whichever comes first. Look up “stubborn” in the dictionary and Melanie’s picture is likely there. Melanie’s presence on his Pa’s property brings publicity that Kyle Casey doesn’t need. Banned from his professional baseball career for betting on baseball, Kyle is licking wounds of his own when Melanie’s actions shine a light on his hideaway. Can he talk her down before the national press learns of his connection to the property? As Kyle learns to know Melanie he sees a woman with knowledge and gifts he needs on the farm, and in his life. He has many regrets about his past but one of the biggest ones is the way he treated his former fiancée. When Melanie’s semi-famous father asks him to take care of his daughter while she’s on his property, he does what he can – feeding her, clothing her, building her a shelter – and in the doing discovers that serving someone else is a sure way to take your mind off of your own troubles. Can he convince Melanie that he’s a changed man, that he’s worth giving a chance? This was such a fun book! Every character has so many quirks that it’s hard not to love them. I also loved the minister of the church next door. Sure, he was a strong man of God but he wasn’t above taking advantage of the situation to increase his congregation. When his parking lot got packed with press people watching Melanie, he moved his Wednesday evening service outside and preached to them. He is instrumental in bringing Kyle back to faith and Kyle is instrumental in bringing Melanie along with him. Romance readers will find much to love in this story. I know I did!

Monica Mynk was a new to me author who delighted me with her humor and Kentucky girl antics.  The Billboard Bride is the story of a stubborn bride and an ex-pro baseball player who takes care of the crazy girl determined to spend thirteen days up on a billboard waiting for an apology from her two-timing fiance. It is a story of second chances, forgiveness, and new hope. People who like funny, sweet romances will enjoy this well-woven story.
