Oh my...this book was amazing. I loved this authors first series and devoured each book with great pleasure. So when I knew she was writing a new one I was ecstatic. This is still in her unique style but a complete standalone. Perry’s story will break your heart. Just knowing what she’s endured will make you cry. When Cole first came into her life it was under tragic circumstances and even then he was drawn to her. Fast forward five years and there connection is still as strong as he first remembers. As they come to complete this Birthday List their love grows. Amongst this are a host of other lovable and awesome characters. I didn’t want this book to end. It was one of the best books I’ve read this year! Major book hangover now too! Lol. I’m so hoping that in the future we’ll maybe get another book featuring another couple. Hint hint Devney. Lol I highly recommend this book. Absolutely loved it even if it made me cry.

Every so often a book comes along and it touches your heart in a way that you never expected, this is one of those books. This book is about love and loss, grieving and trying to move on with life in a way that preserves the memory, and finding a way to enjoy life and accept the possibility that love can still be found despite these changes. Poppy loses her husband in a robbery shooting that goes unsolved. Very tragic since it was on the eve of their first anniversary. After grieving for 5 years she is determined to do the things he wanted to do before his life was stolen from him as a means to find a way to move past her grief. Cole has always wanted to be a police officer, but the hardest thing he had to do was tell a woman that her husband had been killed. Years later their paths cross again and he is drawn to her. Pick up this book to see what happens as Cole helps Poppy to complete her husband's Birthday List. Even if this book isn't your normal thing. I highly recommend you to take the chance, I can't see how you'll regret it.

My Review Title: A quick and enjoyable love story! •*¨*• Minor Spoilers Alert!!! •*¨*• What I enjoyed about this contemporary romance: Widow finds love again / Whimsical / Unpredictable / Easy-to-read / Inspirational / Entertaining / Wonderful characters / Original / Page-turner / Romantic / Realistic / HEA ★¸¸.•*¨*•★Minor Spoilers Alert★•*¨*•.¸¸★ Writing style: Dual POVs •*¨*• Story rating: ★★★★★ This novel was selected for Vilma’s Vixen book discussion group’s June group read on Facebook. I had never heard of this author, but I was pleasantly surprised by widowed Poppy and policeman Cole’s love story. Poppy’s determination to complete her deceased husband’s birthday list of things to do by each birthday was admirably. And I liked that fate brought Cole back into Poppy’s life a second time. Being an intelligent man, Cole knew there was a good reason for fate bringing them together again. He seized his opportunity to get to know her, and he even helped her complete some of the birthday list activities. I look forward to many more stories by this new-to-me author.

I have never read anything by this author before, but she's going on my auto-buy list! From the description, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book that much, but I took a chance based on the glowing reviews. And I'm so glad I did! I expected something more maudlin. A young widow stuck in the past constantly harping on what should have been. Instead, I found it refreshing, with just enough looking back to appreciate how far she's come, but otherwise grounded in her present life and developing relationship with Cole. All around, very well done. I loved the characters, and appreciated their journey.

What's On Your List? Devney Perry has quickly become one of my favorite new authors. Her books are such a welcome escape. When I need a good dose of warm, fuzzy happiness I know I can turn to her stories to make everything right with the world, even if just for a stolen moment. The Birthday List was no exception. It easily earned a spot on the list of books I’ll love forever. The Birthday List is truly an original. It’s one of those books I couldn’t put down while I never wanted to reach the end. I could have kept reading about the characters indefinitely. One minute this story would break my heart and the next I’d be laughing out loud. Perry once again managed to make me fall in love with the beauty of rugged Western Montana. The story of Poppy, her late husband Jamie, the ever-persistent and understanding Cole, and all the quirky family and friends in Poppy’s life came together in a story that had a little bit of everything – romance, heartbreak, humor, and even some mystery and suspense. The Birthday List really makes you imagine how difficult it would be to tragically and unexpectedly lose the love of your life as well as the pain and confusion of trying to move on in a world you no longer recognize. It is so unique because it’s a concept that’s not often explored in the genre of second chance romance. Not all relationships end in a break-up or divorce and death is an entirely different obstacle to overcome. The Birthday List did a beautiful job of portraying those emotions while also conveying a powerful message about living life to its fullest and being brave enough to accept new chances at life and love. I think everyone who reads this book will be inspired to create their own Birthday List if they don’t already have one.

Very different from her previous series. This is a beautiful standalone, but be sure to keep a stack of hankies close by - you'll need them. Anxious for her next book.

The Birthday List by Devney Perry brought me an emotional down pour of feelings right from the beginning. This book puts me in the mind of PS I Love You and held my heart in its hands. Poppy's happy marriage and happy life was shattered by tragedy. The loss of her husband brought her life to a stand still. After years of mourning she is ready to move on with her own life. In order to reconcile and truly say goodbye to Jamie, she takes it upon herself to complete his birthday list. The list is a bucket list of sorts and Poppy hopes that completing it will help bring her the closure she needs. Poppy is prepared for heartache and difficult times, what she isn't prepared for is Cole and her pull toward the man that delivered the news that forever changed her life. Tears, lots and lots of tears. This is an emotionally charged read, the synopsis warns you but I don't think that anyone can be ready for the intensity of Poppy's story. I cried as I said, but I also smiled and cheered for Poppy. I was excited to be along for the ride of the birthday list and for the unexpectedness of Cole. This was my first Devney Perry book, but definitely not the last. 5 stars **Review by Amy W., Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night w/ Books**

The Birthday List by Devney Perry is an emotional romance that spans love, loss, redemption, second chances and acceptance. Told in dual POV between Poppy Maysen and Cole Goodman, this story was amazing. I have come to expect nothing less than stellar from this author and The Birthday List was no exception. Poppy has been struggling for years to put the death of her husband behind her. Her last ditch effort to move on involved completing his "Birthday List" before the year is out. A list that he had begun planning for future birthdays for the rest of his life, leaving her a short time to complete a lot of his items. The most expensive one is done - opening The Maysen Jar restaurant is a dream come true for both of them and a huge success. But what about the rest... Cole Goodman is shocked by the coincidence of running into Poppy Maysen again. The last time he saw her was on the night her husband died, over five years ago. He is even more shocked be the ridiculously strong chemistry between the two of them. Deciding he's going to help her complete her list he walks the fine line between respecting Jamie's memory and her love for him with building their new relationship along the way. Real life men should take a page or a hundred from Cole Goodman's book. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! Enjoy!

Found this author and read one of her other books. It was great so I got the whole series. This one, The Birthday List was a beautiful read. Hope Poppy's best friend and brother get a book of their own.

I received a copy of this book from the author. As you can tell from the blurb, Poppy's beloved husband is deceased. She's lived in a fog for five years since. The one thing she's readied herself for is to complete her husband's "Birthday List." A list he made of things he wanted to accomplish by each of this future birthday's. One of those was to buy Poppy her restaurant. She accomplished this and opened the Maysen Jar. I bet this place would be the cutest place from the description in the book. Plus I love Mason Jars so the fact that the food is served in them makes it even better! As she's learning to live again the man who delivered the news of her husbands death walks back in her life. It feels wrong to notice how *hot* Cole is though. I think it would be awkward. Not to mention it's the first form of attraction she's had since her husbands death. Would that be cheating? Rebound? New start? Poppy and Cole work together on the Birthday List. Their friendship then subsequent relationship is so cute. There's little to no drama between them. I enjoyed reading this book. There's very little drama and no angst. I was really hoping for some more of each in here but it was a good story regardless. I think you'll like reading this contemporary romance.

CAPTIVATING!!! Devney Perry is one of my favorite authors and I thoroughly enjoy devouring all of her books. I have been anxiously awaiting her newest book, THE BIRTHDAY LIST and preordered it so I could have it ASAP. I savored every minute of this heartwarming and sexy book and never wanted it to end. Cole is a detective and he falls hopelessly in love with Poppy. Cole is an alpha male with a strong protective streak. He is also patient, loyal and a wonderful lover. Cole understands that Poppy cares for him but she needs time and patience and he is willing to give her whatever she needs. Cole is the perfect boyfriend and I fell in love with him myself. This is a captivating story with realistic and unforgettable characters.

I have a few very favorite books on my top list and The Birthday List has been quickly added! This book was such a sweet, beautifully written, and moving love story. Be prepared to fall in love with Cole and Poppy and the emotional pull that it will have on your heart. Poppy lost her husband, Jamie tragically 5 years ago. She’s still mourning him, but is attempting to move on and find closure. She is hoping to achieve that by fulfilling Jamie’s Birthday List. One of the items on his list is to go to a karate class, which is where she sees Cole for the first time since he knocked on her door 5 years ago and told her that her husband was killed in a robbery. Cole is charming, genuine, and determined to help Poppy with Jamie’s list. He was so patient, kind, understanding, but he couldn’t deny the spark and chemistry he and Poppy shared. I could go on and on but I will jay say that I HIGHLY recommend this book and y’all NEED to read it!

What a wonderful journey this book takes us on. The first chapter made me ugly cry and I was not sure how I would continue on with the book. However, Poppy and Cole were a wonderful couple and I greatly enjoyed their book. Can't wait to see what is next

Once I started reading The Birthday List I could not put the book down. I was sneaking away to read a few more pages, a few more words, or hopefully a few more chapters. The characters pulled me in. Poppy was the perfect widow, if there is such a thing. She loves her husband and wants to finish his wish list and hopefully be able to move on with her life. Then I met Cole. Sigh, talk about the perfect man. Not only is he instantly attracted to Poppy but he is the most accepting, understanding, welcoming man I have ever read about. He understands that Poppy has to do the wish list in order to be open to a relationship with him. I LOVE that he willingly agrees to help her with the list. While the restaurant Poppy opens is not the focus, it is a major place in the book. I could easily relate to the crowds, the quirky customers, the customers who become friends, and the hard work put into running it. My family has owned a family diner for many years and I have firsthand experience at the hours, the work, and the fun of working with family. The lesson I learned while reading The Birthday List is that it is okay to not forget the love ones who passed away but it is just as okay to keep living. Life is important and if those who passed love you they would want you to keep living. I am lucky enough to not have a lot of experience with the death of loved ones but I am hoping this will stay with me as I continue living my life. While this could have been a sad, poor me story I found it more uplifting, loving, and a living story. I recommend picking up your copy. The Birthday List will be a book that you will not be able to put down and the story will stay with you long after you are done reading.

"The list is a good thing, you know I support you in that. But marking off all Jamie's check boxes isn't going to be enough. At some point, you have to live for you too. That's how you're going to move on." It seems like the last half dozen books I've read have gone beyond giving me escape, and headed straight to my soul. This book ... it was real. Loss is something we have all dealt with on some level, but having a book that directly deals with loss and how you move on from that was, well, I think it literally shredded my heart into pieces. Don't worry, though, it puts all the pieces back in just the right places

On the eve of their one year anniversary Poppy's husband was murdered. Five years on Poppy is slowly coming to terms with Jamie's death. To do this she completing his birthday list. A list of things he wanted to do before each birthday. Cole is the cop who broke the news to Poppy that Jamie was dead. Now their paths cross again and he starts to help Poppy with the list. But when bad news comes will their relationship survive. Bloody 5 star. I love you Devney. I am intrigued however to know if the Maysen jar really exists.
