I love M.C. Beaton and her writing style, however sadly the last several Agatha Raisin books seem to be the same plot lines just written in a different way. The same type of problems with Charles Fraith, and Roy Silver, to the murderer always getting away and then later going after Agatha. I mean seriously, let's get some better endings instead of rehashing the same ones over and over again. As a fan, I will probably continue to read Beaton's books, however I'm hoping that the plot lines will be different in the future

Return once more to the Cotswold village of Winter Pava and take a break to visit with Agatha and your other friends. Mrs. Bloxby has maneuvered Agatha into attending the village Pantomime Production of "Babes in the Woods". If nothing else Agatha figures she can catch up on sum shut eye. Midway when the Ogre, played by the local baker Bert Simple, is vanquished in a puff of smoke through a trap door. He fails to reappear for before the final curtain call and is found murdered. Who would want to kill the kindly baker? It seems there are numerous souls who would be happy to help Bert to the hereafter, perhaps even his saintly wife Gwen and longsuffering son Walt. Agatha is hired by Gareth Craven, the producer of "Babes in the Woods" Agatha gathers her detectives to look into Bert's death. Agatha's long standing love interest (along with her ex-husband James Lacey) Sir Charles's announcement of his plans to marry has her a bit out, but does not stop her from looking with interest at Paul Newton, a farmer and high school teacher John Hale. As the investigation closes in on the killer, the killer decides it is time to get rid of Agatha. Will the detectives proves Craven innocent and bring a killer to justice before he can stop Agatha's hope for romance in her future by make her the next on his hit list. Come visit your old friends in Cotswold and meet some new. Stop by Mrs. Bloxby's for a cup of tea or if you are in need of something stronger check in with Agatha. Catch up on the happenings in the lives of the villagers. As always Ms. Beaton delivers characters who are not afraid to show their flaws in an I'm only human attitude. Add to that the well thought out plot and a fast moving pace and you have another winner. I look forward to visiting Agatha again soon. My rate is 4 1/2 Stars.

This is light hearted reading. Not quite as good as some previous Beaton books.

I enjoyed the thinking of her friend (I won't say), maybe someone real for Agatha she behaved herself better this time and I like that.

I always enjoy a new Beaton and even re-read the old ones frequently. Always a quick read and most enjoyable. Blood of an Englishman did not disappoint. Agatha's hormones did not kick in until page three. The usual investigative frustrations continued with all the old favorite characters making their appearances. It was most enjoyable with a bit of a surprise ending. Is another one coming out so soon?
