The Blood Scion (The Scion Legacy, #1) by Nazarea Andrews

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I followed them.
I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in fear. That is when the monsters came out to play.
And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us.
The Houses. And their Scions.
Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation and death.
And somehow, I am one of them.

Interesting premise - humanity is suffering from a blood born pathogen. To save their food source, vampires come out of hiding and provide a cure in exchange for power in this newly altered world. Farley, a human journalist, discovers through her unknown birth mother she is the scion/ human representative for one of the houses, and she is called home. Really liked the storyline and the characters. Hoping for more of the backstory in the next installment.

Note: This review contains NO spoilers Whoa! That was intense! After reading the prequel, The Scionless House gave me a glimpse of the vampire house that this series focuses on. Now, in this first book, The Blood Scion, introduces readers to the new scion of this great vampire house and her journey this life. The novel opens where the prequel left off, this great vampire house that has survived without a scion has found one. This is her journey, as her life changes when she becomes scion. With every turn of the page, the intensity of these characters reveals how complex each of their roles are in this society where vampires and humans coexist. However, there are real issues that these characters must face, both personal and public. Nazarea has created a world that emits sheer sensuality and tension between humans and vampires. The story flows with a steady pace while, at the same time, builds up that sexual tension between these main characters. I also enjoyed Nazarea's twist on her vampires...definitely making them intensely sexy! With every turn of the page, The Blood Scion dripped with "political" and sensual intrigue that made it hard to put down. I was completely drawn in, and now, I want more!

4.75 stars! The Blood Scion is the first full length book in this a series by Nazarea Andrews and it picks up where the prequel left off. It's a fast read, coming in at just under 200 pages, but it's action packed and full of twists and surprises. I found myself fascinated by the story and eager for more when it was finished. The biggest surprise was Farley. She's human and really does not like vampires. She's a reporter and loves her job and when she's asked to attend a meeting an unlikely place, her instincts tell her something is going on. She has no idea her entire life is about to change. I really liked Farley. She never backs down even when terrified of the outcome, has a strong sense of right and wrong, and loves her family and friends fiercely. She's adventurous and wise, even when she's put into extreme situations. I loved seeing Farley with her brother. Those two had a very strong bond and I admired what they were willing to do for each other. I also liked seeing the sparks between Farley and Octavius, the assassin. I loved being in both their heads. I also enjoyed the sparring between brothers, Octavius and Sulla as well their sparring with Patroclus, the head of the House. I also really liked Octavius. It's clear he follows orders, even if he doesn't agree with them. He's makes honorable, making fair decisions and is also protective of Farley. Nazarea has done a wonderful job at furthering the story while maintaining the intensity. There was never a dull moment in this book. She also did a very good job at explaining how this new world worked. I loved the glossary at the beginning of the book explaining all of the terms. It was quite easy to follow along after I'd read it. I'm very eager to find out what happens in the next book, as Farley faces new challenges both from those she's supposed to protect and those who would protect her.

I had previously read the series' prequel novella "The Scionless House" and I extremely enjoyed it! But, I hadn't expected just how much I would love reading the first book in The Scion Legacy series!!! I actually liked everything on this book! The author's writing style, many of the characters and their personalities, the plot, the switch of the point of view between the protagonists in different parts of the book, which helped me get even more into the story and understand why everyone behaved the way they did! As for the plot, in "The Scionless House" Octavius get orders from the Head of his House and his maker, Patroclus, to set off and find a young woman. But not just any young woman! Not much is being revealed right from the start, but from the hints that are cleverly placed by the author, we realize that this woman is going to be very important, to both the story and the main hero. In "The Blood Scion", the protagonists are both Farley and Octavius! Their points of view are both presented, and I have to admit I love them both! Farley is not your typical damsel in distress, waiting for her guardian to come to her rescue. No, quite on the contrary! She is a strong, brave, young woman, willing to give her own fights and rebel against everything and everyone that goes against her opinion. Octavius, a hero I had adored while reading the novella, is the strongest assassin among the vampiric population! He is determined to serve his House and his maker, but to the extent where he agrees with the decisions that are made! Those two characters are not pawns that anyone can use as they will, a fact that I deeply loved about the book! And don't even get me started about the chemistry between the Raven and the new Scion of the House! Purely amazing! All in all, 5 stars for a great experience that only leaves me wanting for more of the story and characters!

An Awesome Read! 5 Stars All the Way! This is my first read by this author and I can tell you for certain that it will not br my last. At the time of reading I did not know that there was a novella, a prequel to this story and honestly not having read it took nothing away from the enjoyment of the read for me. I do fully intend to go back and read it now though it's called The Scionless House, just in case you would like to begin there. This book is so well written it really knocked my socks off! Farley is our heroine and I absolutely love her. She is a totally fierce strong badass chick underneath the outer covering of a very shy girl. The other characters are also very well created and real as well. This world that the author has created is so amazing, the imagination that she has put into this story is stellar and totally unique. The plot is wonderful and fast paced, painted in such a way that you are transferred right into the story. It's full of my absolute fav. the paranormal, dangers, love and magnificence. A definite can't put down book. I am dying to find out what happens next. I was luckily, generously given a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.
