Overview

The Blooding by Joseph Wambaugh

Fifteen-year-old Lynda Mann's savagely raped and strangled body is found along a shady footpath near the English village of Narborough. Though a massive 150-man dragnet is launched, the case remains unsolved. Three years later the killer strikes again, raping and strangling teenager Dawn Ashforth only a stone's throw from where Lynda was so brutally murdered. But it will take four years, a scientific breakthrough, the largest manhunt in British crime annals, and the blooding of more than four thousand men before the real killer is found.

My only complaint about this book is that there were no pictures in it so you can only imagine what the people looked like based on the descriptions given in the book. Joseph Wambaugh is very good, almost towards the likes of Ann Rule but not quite. If there is any more Joseph Wambaugh, I wouldn¿t mind taking a dose of him again.

I received this book as a gift and was not sure that I'd actually like it. After managing to read it in one day I can now say this is the best book I have ever read. The Blooding will not disappoint.

Being true, I followed the scenes in the book on Google Map's street view and it made it very creepy! I could see the walking bridges and scenes of some of the attacks. I believe I found where the killer paced back and forth before one of his attracks. I was even able to pinpoint the house of one of the victimized families by the author's detailed account of the 60 panes in the bay window that must have been difficult to clean. Buy it and follow along like I did! CREEPY stuff!!!

I thought this was a very interesting book. True crime about two girls being attacked and killed in the same area. It took so long to find the killer...he was so average. He lived among his neighbors for years without being discovered. It took the advent of DNA to solve these murders. The detectives worked so long and hard against almost impossible odds. Well written, as always.

This is the first book that I've ever given 5 stars. This was an excellent book that I read over Christmas break and was completely in awe the entire time. This book starts in high gear and stays there throughout. No long intro setting up the story, this book jumps right in and left me wanting more and more. The ending was especially surprising and not what I was expecting. Enjoy!!
