The Bloodline War is the first in The Community Series by author Tracy Tappan.  It takes the lore of vampires and turns it on edge, creating a whole new and fascinating mythology.  The races of vampire are different from what we traditionally see in vamp fiction, as is the fey that also play a role in the mythology of this world. There is some delicious, and steamy, romance in this book but what I loved was that it was much more than traditional "boy meets girl, boy gets girl, the story is over" formula.  The story keeps going, so much more than simple romantic fiction.  The men are alpha males, yes, but they are alpha males with heart and soul and more than their fair share of baggage.  The women are valued and necessary parts of the community, but often taken for granted and their personal needs dismissed as comparatively unimportant.  The women are intelligent, strong, and capable and use their minds to get what they need from the men in their lives. What was surprising was the amount of humor that there was.  I didn't expect that, but there was a lot of it and I enjoyed its irreverent flavor.  The blend of humor, plot, rich mythology, suspense, and action was absolutely intriguing.  The entire cast of characters was fantastic as well, dynamic and interesting and entirely relatable as three-dimensional people. Things to love...    --The irreverent humor!    --The cast of characters, especially the bad boys with gooey insides.    --The badassery of the alpha males. My Recommendation I really enjoyed this book!  I usually don't really like the bodice-ripper reads of any time period and intense alpha males don't usually do it for me.  But these guys were awesome.  They were funny, they were real, and they were piles of mush on the inside!  Great read!

I enjoyed the story line of this book! It was very interesting. I wanted to know what was going to happen next in every chapter I read. Can't wait to read the next book!

This book caught me from page one. Love the characters and plot. Reads kind of like BDB books by another author. BRAVO! Buying book 2 now, can't wait.

A unique twist to the vampire legends.

This is a new vampire twist everyone should read. There's actually some pretty funny scenes in this one. As soon as I finished it I immediatly bought the others before B & N could catch on that they so should be charging more for this series. Hah! What a steal. The males roles are badass however the author somehow manages to give them a softer side without turning them into doormats. I have to give her props for that. I hope the other books are as good as this one. It was a tough sell to buy this one because I couldn't find a good first hand review. But this ones a diamond in the rough with an author that I think has great potential to really make this series take off. It will be interesting to watch her writing style grow. I give it an even 4 stars.

(I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaways). (This review may contain spoilers). I've ready quite a lot of books about vampires and by now, I have felt that they're very over-used in fiction. But despite that, I did think that the author did a good job of creating a unique world that had some really good world-building and quite a different twist on the normal vampire myth. I quite liked the female characters in the book, but I did think that the males kind of came across as jerks. I could understand why they were acting the way they did, though I did think they should have listened to the women. I liked the relationship between Toni and Jacken and I thought that the author did a good job showing the development of it and that it came across as really realistic and natural. I found myself rooting for them, even though I felt that the blurb of the book did give away a bit too much of the storyline. I did get a bit confused with how there were different types of the bloodlines, though, and I would have liked a bit more explanation about it. I did notice, also, that the male heroes fall into the normal category for paranormal heroes - exceptionally large and abnormally handsome. I have to say that, when that was pointed out in the book, I liked the explanation for it. There was also a really interesting twist that I felt worked particularly well... and kind of went against the normal cliche in paranormal romances. Although the main focus of the book was the romance between Toni and Jacken, it was also nice to see the relationships between the other characters. I also really liked Alex as a character. I'd like to see more of him in later books. Hopefully, there'll be someone for him. All told, I really liked this book. After having a few disappointments with other paranormal romance series, this one looks like it might be a really intriguing one with well-written characters and a society that's believable and entertaining to read about. I do have book two ready to read and I will probably read the later books in the series as well.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!  (And boy, can Tracy write a hero!) The story was so full of twists even from the very first chapter.  I thought I knew the direction it was going, (because I have read my fair share of vampire novels), but I was completely wrong.  That's what was so refreshing about this book.  Also, the mythology surrounding the vampires is unlike any that I have read before, which was also refreshing. I also like how not just the main characters were featured in the story.  I learned about the lives of other minor characters who, hopefully, will get their own books in the series!  Each male was SO alpha, and yet so devoted to his woman, family and duty.  I also want to know what happens not only with the war itself, but with the singles who are still single at the end of the book! Jacken is one of my all-time favorite heroes.  He is so dark and tortured, and yet it's clear that he has so much good in him that just needs a way to come to the surface. I would absolutely keep reading this series.  Tracy is a very talented writer; not only is the book well-written in a technical sense, but she had me almost chomping at the bit to see what happened next!  I found myself limiting the number of pages I read to make the book last longer, but before I knew it, I was done! I am eagerly awaiting the next installment, and I am now a HUGE Tracy-fan!!! ***A copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review***

Strong females, powerful men who are brought to their knees by these women, sound good? What if I added action, intrigue, a kidnapping or three, hysterical moments that make you laugh out loud, tender moments that will warm your heart and intimate moments that will cause global warming? Sound like this may be a good read? Kick in dragons, vampires and demons for good measure and what you get is Tracy Tappan’s Bloodline War and one fantastic, fresh take on paranormal romantic intrigue! Did I mention that every single male was huge, hot and powerful, yet had personalities that almost had me laughing one minute and crying the next; they were so “real “and loyal to each other. Their sexual activity was based on whether they were mated or not, so no manwhores here! Toni is a beautiful woman, but along with her brother, never quite fits into that pigeon hole of life. She has her job, her brains, the poor choices she has made in the dating arena to contend with, but all of that becomes history when she is kidnapped and taken far below the surface of her world and plunked down in the middle of a secret world of people of myths and legends, or so she thought. Headstrong and brave, she wants to go home, to be freed, but nooooo, she is told she is a descendant of dragons and only her special blood chemistry can help a dying race, the Varcolac procreate. She can have any man she wants, except for the one who has caught her eye and her heart. Jacken is not allowed to breed, as his bloodline is considered tainted, even though he is one of the strongest warriors, it is forbidden. The Varcolac are not the only ones who want Toni and her “imprisonment” is for her own good, too bad she doesn’t agree and gets all of the other women to stand up to their men and go to the surface in protest, taking their children with them. Will there be a standoff at the O K Corral? Will the leader see thee is a better way to keep his people alive? Will Jacken and Toni remain forbidden to share their love? Tracy Tappan has a hit series on her hands that is full of action, great characters, snark and attitude while her crisp writing style has built an underground world that almost breathes, it feel so real! Her ability to dole out nuggets of information is brilliantly paced. I’m on board for more in this series after such a fabulously fresh foundation.

Its vastly different also. They are fey and vampire. My complaint is that I felt several times that the author had edited put important details. Spolier*** For example, Toni is married less than a month and runs off after a night of love making.... to ta da marriage problems? I seriously thought my nook had messed up and went hunting the pages I had missed. I hadn't missed any. Another she is kidnapped almost raped, next page we are having a meeting with the enemy?!? Didn't like that about this author. Did enjoy the book though and will buy the second. 320+ pages BrynnS

I went into this book with a cynical eye. I remember reading that this series was likened to the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Since BDB is one of my top favorites you can see why I had my doubts. Well, I have another favorite. The warriors are similar to BDB but, there are so many things that are different from them making it a great read. I'd highly recommend this series to anyone that likes the paranormal genre.

This was a unique, quirky take on all things that go bump in the night, Yes, it's dark and gritty at times but somehow still manages to be funny and light-hearted. During the first half of the book, Tracy Tappan takes the time for world-building and letting us get to know her characters, which I appreciated. The last half has suspense and edge of your seat action... and I couldn't put my Kindle down. The Varcolac (or Vampires) have been forced to live underground in a city 'next door' to their Om Rau demon enemies... but instead of creepy or gothic, imagine 1950's wholesome perfection. Oh, and unmated Varcolac are all virginal because of the changes that come over them once they've taken a lover. Nope, I doubt you've ever seen Vampires like this before. Jacken was a hard-as-nails bad ass but thankfully, so was Toni. I loved his inner softie, the way they talked smack to each other, and the innocence of how they fell so deeply in love. They were a great couple and my only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen a little more of them together. “She stopped crying. Holy sh--, he’d made her stop. Him! His lungs expanded. He was King of the World.”. Most of the men blend into the background of the story so it's the other 'Dragon' women that drive the plot forward and give it heart and soul. The Dragons love their husbands passionately but they're fed up with their prison-like circumstances and angry about the kidnappings and forced assimilation of their kind into the community. Change is desperately needed, but how far are they prepared to go to make it happen? "You Vârcolac males like to make us Dragons think we’re so special to you, but the truth is,” she lowered her voice to a hiss, “we’re not even worth the effort for you to fight for us.”. Toni, Beth, and Kimberly were all intelligent, tough, and dynamic characters. I really felt for their plight and I was relieved to see them speak up and take action to get what they wanted. Toni and Kimberly both drop some shocking personal revelations and I had to keep reminding myself that they were only fictional... I had that much of an emotional connection to them. If you're looking for a new paranormal series, then give The Bloodline War a chance. You won't come across anything else like it.

Favorite Lines “You’re Nurse Fine Ass!” “Other divorced fathers saw their children, right? Weekends and every other Christmas, half of summer vacation. So it must’ve been me, don’t you see. I’d done something to drive him away.” “You Vârcolac males like to make us Dragons think we’re so special to you, but the truth is,” she lowered her voice to a hiss, “we’re not even worth the effort for you to fight for us.” “I didn’t get it before. I wasn’t listening, either, but I’m sure listening now.” Keeping an arm around her shoulders, Arc started to lead her toward the double doors. “I suggest everyone in this room start doing the same.” “Our whole lives, both of us have been the square pegs in the round holes. We’ve never fit in.” “Are you going to make me sit on you until you agree to bond with me, Ja¿ken? Because I’ll do it. You know I will.” “Two against the world, Mrs. Brun. You and I. For always and forever.” What a fabulously funny book! There was so much going on in this book and I didn't feel overwhelmed I loved it. This book is different from others because it didn't end after the smoking hot alpha male got the girl it kept going!  I won't bore you with details but, I will tell you this has races I've never heard of, heroines who use there minds to win, and hero who may be tortured by their past but love helps them face their future. This authors does an amazing job of bring her world to you and making you want to stay. I didn't stop once I opened my iPad when it was over I ran to authors website and found when the next book was coming out. I can't wait to see what paranormal stories this author comes up with next.  Everyone needs to give this book a chance you will be laughing at loud and loving this world! FIVE DRAGON FAIRIES

I read on Face Book where several people saying this series was as good as The Black Dagger Brotherhood. No way are the two series compatible. This first book was okay, but now reading the second book I am completely bored. The main reason I purchased this series was to enjoy a new author and to see what she brought forth but found the series lacking. Character depth not there and too many characters introduced at the same time.
