It was a cold March morning in 1981, when Stacy's mother was riding with her daughter-in-law on their way to her dialysis treatment. A sleepy driver ran a red light and they were killed instantly. Stacy put off finishing college, and her plan to find a job in a big city, to care for her niece and two nephews. After a year, Stacy insists her brother hire a nanny.
Starting her own life again is complicated by Sam Phillips, a construction worker with a secret about his work life. He's the first man she had met that made her body want to change its status from a virgin to a lover. Stacy's journey from a small town girl of 21, to a courageous, confident woman, takes her from Texas, to the Bahamas, Colorado, and California.
