The Boat Builder’s Bargain is the sweeter edition of Kris Pearson’s The Boat Builder’s Bed. No swearing, less sex, but still plenty of flirting.
A single mom and a billionaire. A beautiful house that needs her touch, and a beautiful man who needs her love even more.
Superyacht tycoon Rafe Severino wants a woman. Desperately. Someone who can decorate his lonely new mansion with its million-dollar views over Wellington harbor and return his life to normality. Rafe yearns to marry again and start a better family than the one he came from. He gets more than he bargains for with Sophie Calhoun.
Newly established decorator Sophie seeks to make her mark on the city, but to concentrate on her design studio she has been parted from her adored daughter for the last several years. When Rafe confesses the ugly truth of his upbringing, Sophie sees disaster ahead. Rafe was also hidden away, and it tore him apart. Will he ever forgive Sophie if he discovers she’s done the same with little Camille?
A heart-warming story of family, love, loss, dangerous currents, and maybe love regained.
About the Author
New Zealander Kerri has been a spinner of stories since childhood. She worked first as a writer for radio, then in the wider advertising industry, and now devotes herself to romantic fiction. She enjoys sharing her beautiful country with the world, and creates stories full of real people in believable situations. Three of her many novels were finalists in New Zealand’s Clendon Award. Perhaps you already know her as Kris Pearson (her real name.) If your reading preference is clean language and to keep the bedroom door further closed, these new sweeter editions might be just what you’d enjoy. They're the same basic stories – fun and flirty. You’ll still know what’s going on, but your imagination will have to supply the details. Does that sound fair? So far the first five Wellington books have been re-written as the ‘Hearts around the Harbor’ series. If they sell well, then Kerri has a lot more work ahead of her. She’s a keen gardener, a Soroptimist, sometimes a painter, and co-ordinator of the local romance writers' meetings in her home city of Wellington, but she'll find time!

ARC for honest review with no compensation Boat Builder’s Bargain is the 1st book in the series of Hearts around the Harbor and is a sweeter version of her series Wicked in Wellington which is steamy. Must say that I did like both versions of the book! ! Sophie and Rafe have lots of sparks, verbal sparring, some heat, secrets, but in the end will they find their HEA???
Steamy! Even without the sex! I am so glad this is described as the ‘sweeter’ side of Kris Pearson and not ‘sweet’ as it is still very hot and steamy – in fact I think I prefer it to the original. Rafe and Sophie are fantastic together, right from their first meeting there are sparks and fireworks, teasing, laughs and verbal sparring. Even when they clash and disagree there are fireworks and passion, which only makes the words more cutting and wounds deeper. Sophie is an intriguing mix of feisty, determined, confident designer and self doubting, insecure mother – she loves her daughter with her whole heart but life has thrown her some huge curve balls, leaving her with few options and she is determined to reclaim her daughter and their future. She is sure she has to do this alone and is terrified of letting anyone close, especially someone who makes her knees weak and her head spin. Can she trust her heart? Or should she protect her heart and keep Rafe at arms length? Rafe is a hot, sexy millionaire with a whole boatload of emotional baggage, both from his parents and his ex-wife. He is a successful businessman who is used to people hanging on his every word and doing exactly what he wants them to do and I love the fact that Sophie doesn’t! Her flirty come backs and verbal sparring keep him on his toes, challenging him in a whole new way, couple this with her refusing to fall for his charms and resisting his every move leaves him floundering and unsure – a refreshing change. The teasing, flirting and whispered wants are very steamy and hot – even if they don’t lead to sex scenes. In no way is this book lacking without the sex scenes. I loved every page and cannot wait to read the rest of the series – Kerri is sure to be a hit!
The Boat Builder’s Bargain by Kerri Peach Hearts around the Harbor #1 Rafe does a double-take when Sophie’s new business sign is blown from her hands by the wind. When he stops to assist her he realizes she once worked for his ex-wife AND he also realizes he is attracted to her. Offering her the job of decorating his home is the first step in what he hopes will lead to more than a professional relationship – perhaps a forever relationship. With Sophie trying to fight her attraction and keeping a huge secret there are bound to be troubles before a HEA can be achieved. I loved Rafe and Sophie. Their romantic dance was a pleasure to read and a lot of fun, too. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series as soon as I can! Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4.5 Stars
