Overview

The Book with No Pictures by B. J. Novak

A #1 New York Times bestseller, this innovative and wildly funny read-aloud by award-winning humorist/actor B.J. Novak will turn any reader into a comedian.
You might think a book with no pictures seems boring and serious. Except . . . here’s how books work. Everything written on the page has to be said by the person reading it aloud. Even if the words say . . .

BLORK. Or BLUURF.

Even if the words are a preposterous song about eating ants for breakfast, or just a list of astonishingly goofy sounds like BLAGGITY BLAGGITY and GLIBBITY GLOBBITY.

Cleverly irreverent and irresistibly silly, The Book with No Pictures is one that kids will beg to hear again and again. (And parents will be happy to oblige.)

I first read this book to my four year old grandson who found it hysterical and had me read it over and over!  I read it to his seven year old brother last night and I could hardly read it to him because I saw the giggles of laughter emerging from the little guy!  I was laughing so hard I could hardly get through it.  I actually read it in front of my family and adults also thought it hysterical!  As an educator this book inspires so many ideas about creating our own "book without pictures"!!  One of my favorite  books ever for young and old!

I bought this book for two of the teachers at my children's school. I hadn't read it, but watched the author read a bit of it on line to a group of school children. It is funny! And most of all it is fun for the reader who is hearing the book, and for the one who is reading it out loud. The teacher's loved it! Even my middle schooler loved it!

When I told my 5 years old son I bought a book with no pictures he was disappointed but then when i read it to him he was laughing so loud and he could't stop. The first day I had to read it 3 times!

I saw this book in an online short review and it looked cute so I got it for my 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old grandsons. This book was a great hit, especially for the 4 1/2 year old. The first time I read it to him he was merely curious but each subsequent reading had him giggling in anticipation. He insisted on having every adult he came in contact with read it to him. He loved their reactions and he continued to enjoy the book. The 2 1/2 became more interested with each adult's rendition. I am going to be sure to put this one on my "must give" list for any young people I need to get a special gift.

Another winner, according to my 3 1/2 yr old granddaughter. The adult (or older sibling) reading this book to a small child must get into it along w/the child... have fun... express your joy of gibberish as much as the child will... you'll both enjoy the time spent together with this book.

Great book for little kids. It's very funny and just plain silly. I think this book could get kids to read more. I read it to my daughter's first grade class and I asked them to raise their hand if they liked the book. All hands shot up. It also makes a great bedtime story.

Disclaimer: I had to read this for school Even though this book doesn't have pictures, it's really cute. There's a lot of funny words, so this book should definitely be read out loud. This book is really great to read to kids and get them laughing.

I did not think I would enjoy "The Book With No Pictures", but it ended up being one of my favorite children's books. It calls for interaction between child and adult, and because it is fueled by imagination, the story can be wildly different every time. B.J. Novak really hit this one out of the park.

There is nothing as sweet as the sound of a child laughing. If you want to make their day or may a great day out of an ordinary one - read this once and then again and listen to the giggles. Great Book!!

This is a laugh out loud book that must be read aloud to appreciate it. Very imaginative and fun1 Kids will love you getting dramatic as you read it to them.

I read this to my grandkids ages 2 and 6 and it was delightful giggles through the whole book. Then my 6 year old grandson wanted to read it to his sister. They love this book. Recently I dropped it off to their home so that my son and daughter-in- law could experience the fun. First thing the kids said was that book is funny!!

Did I enjoy this book: This is a really fun book! I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it as much as my son did! We’re working on introducing the concept that not all books have pictures, but they’re still fun to read, and The Book With No Pictures was wonderful for that! My son was a little skeptical at first (as one would expect of a 2.5-year-old), but once my husband started reading all the silly words in funny voices, we started giggling together and having a great time! The Book with No Pictures is also a great lesson for parents on how to read aloud in order to keep small children engaged. (Hint: funny voices are key). Would I recommend it: The Book With No Pictures is my go-to gift for new parents! It should be in every child’s library. It’s fun, silly, and a great way for parents to interact and share a love of reading with their little ones. As reviewed by Sara at Every Free Chance Books.

Bought this as a birthday gift for a 5 y/o but read it to our grandson first. He laughed so hard, he had every adult he knew read it out loud, and then he read it to his little brother over and over. Then wanted to take it to school and have his teacher read it to the class. What could we do but buy another copy? From now on, this book is going to be our Go To book for kids.

I loved this book so much I asked the 1st grade teacher whose room I volunteer in if I could read it to the kids on my last day with them before I left on a trip for a month. They were more quiet and attentive than I had ever seen them! They LOVED it! The school librarian had heard of it and was overjoyed when I donated a copy to the library in memory of my aunt, who was a champion of children's literature and literacy. Way to go, Mr. Novak!
