About the Author
Tania Teschke is a writer and photographer with a passion for French cuisine and wine. American-born and globe-traveled, Tania lived for an extended period in France four separate times, for undergraduate and graduate studies, and immersions into French language and literature, and traditional French cooking from French chefs and friends. She apprenticed with an award-winning Basque butcher, and earned a diploma in wine science from the University of Bordeaux. Inspired by her French experiences, Tania began recording recipes and stories as a creative outlet and for the enjoyment and edification of her daughters. Over several years, this knowledge and experience evolved into a comprehensive masterwork of recipes, French culture and healthy living that she titled, The Bordeaux Kitchen.
Tania's travel photography has been exhibited in Paris, Tokyo, and Moscow and has appeared in The New York Times and other international publications. She interned with legendary National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry in New York. She has previously worked with children’s book publisher Scholastic and in conservation with World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC and Frankfurt.
Tania’s passion for health and nutrition was sparked by her experience with a ruptured appendix while working in Kazakhstan in her 20s. Her life-threatening illness resulted in numerous complications and health challenges that were poorly addressed by traditional medicine, inspiring her to look for answers through dietary modification and healthy exercise and lifestyle practices.
Tania earned a B.A. from Brown University and an M.A. from The Fletcher School at Tufts University. Tania speaks French, German and Russian. Still a global nomad with her diplomat husband and two daughters, Tania currently lives in Switzerland and enjoys hiking in the Alps with her family and cooking them nutrient-dense meals.

I have been a long time fan of Tania Tescheke, first discovering her blog a few years ago. Her combination of artistic photos and recipes drew my eye and had me coming back to discover more. I've followed her on social media and watched this book be put together piece by piece, lovingly through her education on the foundation of food that spanned towns, cities, and even countries. I imagined myself standing in the fields with her, learning along side as she herself explored nutrition at it's core. I already know that what she brings to the page is the love she has put on the table for her own family. What she wants to share with her readers. This is not a cook book of quick meals and busy family dinners, this is the book you pull out when you want to feed your family with love. This is the book you pull out when you feel like you want to OWN your kitchen, and be one with the foundation of food this good earth has to offer. Techeke's understanding of not only food, but wine, and the journey she takes you on through words, recipes and photos is beautiful and inspirational. It's a stunning book on it's own, and as you page through, you're instantly going to feel like your kitchen has been transformed into your studio. The food, your art. I am wildly excited to turn each page, and try my hand at it. Tania Teschke is our modern day Julia Child, you cannot go wrong by welcoming her into your kitchen.
A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Preparing, and Enjoying French Cuisine Tania Teschke’s The Bordeaux Kitchen: An Immersion into French Food and Wine, Inspired by Ancestral Traditions is a huge achievement. If you’re interested in really learning about French cuisine, this is the book you want. The first thing I noticed is that The Bordeaux Kitchen is made the way a book should be made. It’s 650 beautiful, full-color pages with 180 traditional French recipes and marvelous photos taken all over southwestern France by Tania herself. The margins are filled with anecdotes, call-outs, and explanations that add real flavor to the topic at hand. The Bordeaux Kitchen truly is what its title suggests—an immersion into French food and wine. It explores subjects such as The French Paradox of eating a rich diet while still enjoying great longevity. It weaves ancestral living with good nutrition, food sourcing, and a wide variety of pro tips such as how to keep your knives sharpened. The Bordeaux Kitchen is also a personal account of Tania and her family’s discovery and enjoyment of all the opportunities for living with intention, tradition, and awareness that their journey has offered them. I believe this book could easily be used as a text in any culinary arts school, while still remaining a tool and an experience that anyone can use and enjoy.
The Bordeaux Kitchen is a beautiful, heavy, hard cover book. A great addition to the kitchen. It is so much more than a recipe book. It’s a French history and geography lesson, a glossary, a reference manual, a great discussion of food and wine with permission to eat meat and fat - plus it has hundreds of recipes. It’s easy to read and has something for everyone with its discussion of cooking techniques, herbs, spices, cheese, meat, wine, nutrition, and the importance of sharing a meal with family. I highly recommend.
