The Border by Robert McCammon

World Fantasy award-winning, bestselling author Robert McCammon makes a triumphant return to the epic horror and apocalyptic tone of his books Swan Song and Stinger in this gripping new novel, The Border, a saga of an Earth devastated by a war between two marauding alien civilizations.

But it is not just the living ships of the monstrous Gorgons or the motion-blurred shock troops of the armored Cyphers that endanger the holdouts in the human bastion of Panther Ridge. The world itself has turned against the handful of survivors, as one by one they succumb to despair and suicide or, even worse, are transformed by otherworldly pollution into hideous Gray Men, cannibalistic mutants driven by insatiable hunger. Into these desperate circumstances comes an amnesiac teenaged boy who names himself Ethan--a boy who must overcome mistrust and suspicion to master unknowable powers that may prove to be the last hope for humanity's salvation. Those same powers make Ethan a threat to the warring aliens, long used to fearing only each other, and thrust him and his comrades into ever more perilous circumstances.

A major new novel from the unparalleled imagination of Robert McCammon, this dark epic of survival will both thrill readers and make them fall in love with his work all over again.

A good sci-fi book. I would recommend it to anyone.

Good book for those who enjoy the author or the genre, not his best work. Skipping from one character to the other leaves this reader not caring or identifying with any character. Almost seemed like Swan Song with updated gadgets.

McCammon’s gift for character gets a bit lost here, drowned in descriptions of alien tech and human fixes of destroyed human devices. The fight scenes are over-long, too. Despite the many characters, he does keep a grip on them, and the tragedy vs. struggle plot would be more powerful with less machinery. Not his best, but he’s still brilliant.

Tough going at first but the plot soon develops into a compelling, thought-provoking journey with a great author at the wheel. So glad to have him back!

I enjoyed this book. It was a real page Turner. While not the same it put me in mind McCammon's Swan Song. If you like apocalyptic stories then this is for you.

Excellent book from one of my favorite authors ever! You really get to know the characters and the aliens were very unique and original. Also loved the setting (Colorado and Utah).

After being away from writting "horror" type novels for a few years, it's nice to read another great novel from this author. While not a real horror noval, the story in of it self is a nightmare. This authors best novel was " Swan Song". This story kind of reminds me of it in some ways. Great charactors. One of those novels you wish won't end. Has a interesting and I think great ending.
