The year is 1911 in the South of England. Five schoolmates wangle an invitation to a lord's estate and unwittingly set off a chain of events that will seal their fate in the coming World War.

*From the disastrous Battle of Ypres to the butchery of The Somme...
*From the inner sanctum of a secret Army operation to embroilment with a spy and Winston Churchill's "backroom boys"...
*From the doldrums of trench warfare to the unearthing of a a German plot against America...

Throughout it all, someone behind the scenes appears to be pulling strings as these lads struggle to survive in a world of war and political intrigue. Will The Bottom Five survive, or will they be among the millions sacrificed on the field of battle?

What an enjoyable read this book was. If you are a history buff, you will certainly enjoy this one. A great book to give to a teen or adult friend. It was so fun to follow the lives of the 'Bottom Five' through World War I and become more aware of the historical events in England at this time in history.

A great story, author did his home work on facts and mixed them well into the story line. A must read for all ages.

A well written story, full of English humor and adventure. A must read for young men and women as well as the rest of us. It is easy to forget that in the end friendships bring us through. The author really did his homework on historical fact and it was clever on how these facts were mixed in the story line. I've checked, the Royals did have a German surname.
