Ms. Prochaska has rewarded her loyal readers with another literary treat wrapped in a third mystery of Alice Tricklebank and her trusted bloodhound, Audrey. In this installment, the residents of Limekiln are tormented by a series of malicious events, some minor and others calamitous including a cold-blooded killing. Amidst this backdrop of murder and mayhem, Alice and Audrey must navigate among a cast of suspects to bring the killer to justice and restore peace and tranquility to their sleepy hamlet before more harm is done. The author demonstrates her signature skill of creating a textured mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the very satisfying end. I highly recommend The Case of the Ex Who Plotted Revenge for all mystery buffs. The book is a quick and enjoyable read..... Hoping we haven't seen the end of Alice and the lovable slobberer, Audrey.
Well, Ms Prochaska has done it again! This is the third in the Snoopypuss Mystery series, and she's batting 3-for-3! It's a finely crafted tale, full of surprises. Unusual for the series, we suspect from near the start "whodunit", but there are plenty of twists and turns along the way, enough to keep you turning pages until late in the night. An ex-husband of Lena (Lena is Watson No. 1 to Alice's Sherlock; Audrey the bloodhound is No. 2) is suspected of plotting revenge on some of the local citizenry for failing to keep him out of jail. I won't spoil the plot by telling you whether he did it or not, but be prepared for any number of surprises. Ms Prochaska has a way of introducing characters into the plot, then revealing more interesting bits of information about them as we go along, some of them subsequently becoming regular members of the cast. There are some in this installment that I'd like to see more of. An interesting plot device was to have this all happen with Christmas and a wedding approaching. The tension between the joy of these two events and the fear created by the perp(s) is palpable. If you're looking for a fast-paced book with interesting characters and a labyrinthine plot, this is the book for you. Highly recommended!
