Case of the Missing Cutlery: A Leadership Course for the Rising Star by Kevin Allen

Kevin Allen, author of the Wall Street Journal best-selling The Hidden Agenda: A Proven Way to Win Business and Create a Following, is back, with a fabulously entertaining (and true) tale of a newly minted leader made buoyant during The Case of the Missing Cutlery: A Leadership Course for the Rising Star. As a young manager at an airline catering facility, Kevin had to find out why silverware was disappearing at a rapid clip. The route to solving this mystery of The Case of the Missing Cutlery results in Kevin learning to rise to the occasion, to become a leader who inspires followers and is able to rely on their hard work and support. For those who might find reading about leadership success at the Fortune 50 level inspiring but too far removed from their experience, the author offers up this down-to-earth story of an everyday employee turned rising star. The Case of the Missing Cutlery also provides exercises and further examples to bring the leadership messages home. [This edition contains content previously published as The Buoyant Leader.]

“The Case of the Missing Cutlery” is a brilliantly entertaining true tale from the wonderfully engaging bestselling author and former Mad Men, Kevin Allen. I have been lucky enough to be mentored by Kevin himself, Kevin is a one of a kind person who really knows how to emotionally connect with and inspire people to do and be the best they can, at all levels, both professionally and personally. I highly recommend “The Case of the Missing Cutlery”, it is an essential read and practical guide for anyone who is tasked with leading a team. I will be referring to my copy of the book every time I face a new challenging leadership issue, or for when I simply need some Kevin Allen positivity. Inspiring, engaging and entirely human, I have already recommended it to all my friends, it's the leadership book every leader must read.

Kevin Allen's latest book was a joy to read! His writing style is engaging, and there are so many gems that I am able to apply to my own work as Director of Marketing in the fashion industry. There's so much to learn from this book and I highly recommend it to all the Buoyant Leaders out there!

Short, sweet and gets to the heart of being a leader. As a young entrepreneur growing her own company, I often have to work with, and lead teams that are outside of my own. This book helped me navigate those dynamics and learn to mobilize a disparate group of people (who often have individual interests) into one team with a shared goal in mind. Highly recommend.

I just finished reading The Case of the Missing Cutlery and have to say that I really enjoyed this read. Kevin Allen imparts the wisdom of leadership through an engaging story based on his experience as a young manager. Illustrated with a cast of characters that bring his tale to life, the lesson learned here is that true leadership is not born out of a dictatorship, more of a collective support network. If you, as a leader, foster your team and care about them, they truly get behind you and you become a more effective leader.

I enjoyed the "book" very much but geesh! It's so brief. I feel ripped off.
