I have found a new favorite author! I have read the Emily Chamber and the Freak House novels. I really enjoy her style of writing. I don't want to put it down once I start! The Charmer, was sexy (without any erotica) exciting with a handsome hero. Great all around read - can't wait to start the next book!

Great introduction to the Assasins Guild storyline set in the late 1500's. I enjoyed the different twists in the plot and did not determine the threat until later in the story. The Guild carries out vigilanti justice, dispatching evil people who escape being held accountable for heinous crimes they commit due to their wealth or powerful positions in society. Before delivering death, the accused is carefully investigated by a guild member to ensure the accused is indeed guilty as accused. So when a guild member is needed to investigate a suspected "black widow" who is accused of murdering two husbands for their wealth, the Charmer is chosen for the job. The facts, however, do not add up to the accusations and he discovers there is much more going on in the sleepy village that needs further investigation as he is drawn to the widow. Great characters and an intricate storyline made this an entertaining read. The details about growing oranges in England was interesting to me as a hobby gardener. I would love a recipe for her marmelade and succants.

Although it was a pretty predictable plot line, I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the strong, independent heroine and her protective servants. I’m glad not a lot of time was spent on describing all the surroundings, etc. and that made it a quick read. For a light mystery with romance, I recommend this book.

Got me hooked on Archer's series. Starting book two, The Rebel, and it looks like this one will also be a keeper.

At turns funny, romantic, sexy, and suspenseful this book was a joy to read. It is a stand alone tale, as well as the first in the Assassins Guild series. I will definitely read more of these stories, I love period pieces.

The story concept was original, but the author became repetitive as she sought to clarify. This caused the book to be unnecessarily long. Treason as part of the plot seemed forced and was inserted rather far into the story. There really didn't seem to be much to this plotline. I also question the use of "arse" instead of "ass" in the narrative and some of the terms used. A caul is defined as "a fatty membrane covering a sheeps's intestines" rather than a woman's headscarf. And could someone explain how an eyebrow can "fork"? I think the author was trying to find a new word for arched, but sometimes the old words work best.

Not a bad story but just not realistic so it seemed silly to me

The story was new and well thought out. The ending was quick like they tried to rush it all at once but worth the read.
