PR consultant Sasha Solomon is putting together a campaign for the New Mexico city of Clovis, which means she gets to see her best friend Mae. Mae is acting weird, however, and with good reason. There's a dead body on her dairy farm. And, oh yeah, she's being kidnapped by aliens. After the first 20 pages, I was fully into this book. It's different but funny with great characters and some wonderful turns of phrase.

This is an excellent book, very well written. Sasha, the main character and narrator of the story, feels like a real person that I got to know. She is intelligent and interesting and just a little weird. A small town in New Mexico named Clovis and the people in it are described perfectly. It's really like that here!

I became an instant fan of The Clovis Incident, and especially its hero, Sasha Solomon. Sasha's an independent, funny PR specialist who talks to her cat and is caught up in one of the most intriguing mysteries I've read this year. But what really won me over was the whipped cream. When Sasha gets stressed out, she pops open a can of whipped cream and squirts it directly into her mouth. Since this is a murder mystery, Sasha gets stressed out a lot, so there's a lot of whipped cream nozzle-biting happening in this novel. By far the funniest is when Sasha has just filled her mouth with a spray of the soothing white stuff when the phone rings. It's the police detective who is investigating the murder. What he says stresses her out even more, but Sasha can't exactly squirt whipped cream into her mouth while talking on the phone, oh-no. So, she squirts it into her hand and licks it off instead. You have to love a gal like that! I can't wait to see what Sasha will do in her next book.
