The Collected Short Stories of Walter Miller Jr. by Walter Miller Jr.

Presented here are the collected short stories of Walter Miller Jr., best known for his Hugo Award winning sci-fi novel—A Canticle for Leibowitz. All of these stories were written for various sci-fi magazines, the likes of which were so popular in the 1950s. All have been defunct for many years and the copyrights on these stories were never renewed. It gives Horatio Press great pleasure to bring back to the general public a handful of short stories by an acknowledged master in the realm of sci-fi.

About the Author

Walter Miller Jr. wrote science fiction almost exclusively throughout his life. Perhaps being a native of Florida, home of many a NASA space launch, stirred his blood as it had so many other young men (and some women) over the years. The bulk of his work appeared as short stories in sundry sci-fi magazines during the 1950s. He won the Hugo Award twice, the first in 1955 for his short story—The Darfsteller. Six years later he would win it again for his now classic novel—A Canticle for Leibowitz, a futuristic post nuclear cataclysmic story, much of it owing to his own WWII experiences and his participation in, and subsequent guilt over, the bombing of the Benedictine Abbey. Miller died in 1996 having written only one story since Canticle appeared in 1959, a follow up titled Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman.
