The Colonel’s Daughter is a part of Entangled Publishing’s Men of the Zodiac series. Each book features a different man from one of the signs of the Zodiac, and written by a different author. This time around author Amy Andrews writes about a Scorpio who finds himself in trouble ‘Down Under.’ Ex-Special Forces officer, Seth Rodrigo, is keeping an eye out for his Colonel’s daughter after the Colonel finds himself the target of a band of terrorists. Seth goes undercover as a bouncer at a local bar in Sydney where Ivy Danforth works as a waitress, and offers her protection she never knew she needed, nor wants. This all sounds like the set-up to a great romance, but this romance is a slow burn. Amy Andrews takes time to develop the characters, and build their romance before they hit the sheets. I actually appreciated this, but wish there was more steamy action. The plot was well laid out, and I really enjoyed reading as Seth and Ivy got under each other’s skin. This made me feel as if the payoff was worth it. Didn’t I say this was more of a romance? The Colonel’s Daughter is a romance, and not erotic fiction. Don’t get me wrong, there is some sexy time, but if you’re looking for a couple to tear up the sheets, Seth and Ivy aren’t them. However, if you’re looking for a real romance, then you’ve come to the right place. As much as I enjoyed the story, there was just one thing that irritated the hell out of me. Ivy. I didn’t like her desperation. I actually found her behavior a turn-off. I guess it’s because I read too many books with strong female protagonists, that one that appears desperate and weak rubs me the wrong way. Despite a couple of irritations, I actually really enjoyed reading this book. The hunt for the murderer, the Colonel’s difficulty, and Seth’s true identity kept the story flowing. I liked the characters, for the most part, and thought that the story unfolded in an interesting way. If you’re looking for a sweet, suspenseful romance, then give this one a try.

Ivy Danforth is looking to break free from the imprisoned walls her father has built around her since she was a child, and finally be free to experience life without a security detail en tow. So, after she finally convinces her father to let her live her life freely for a while, her and her best friend Merry set out on the vacation of a life time to travel through Australia, After living a sheltered life for so long, she is looking to cross some things off her life experiences list, and one of her main goals is to finally enjoy the comforts of a man in her bed. And she has set her sights on one man in particular, her co-worker Seth Rodrigo. He provides security detail for the bar they work at, and she spends night after night admiring him from afar, now she just has to find a way to catch his eye and lure him into her bed... Seth Rodrigo is a ex-special forces officer who has been secretly hired to keep an eye on the colonel's precious daughter while she is living it up on her vacation from the watchful eyes of her father. It seemed like an easy enough task when he took the job, but after spending night after night watching Ivy while working together in the bar, he is beginning to think he has gotten himself into a whole lot more than he bargained for, she is beautiful, and she has been making it very difficult for him to focus on the task on hand... This was my first experience with this author's work, and I have got to say that I really enjoyed it. The story line pulled me in right away, I got so wrapped up into it that I ended up devouring it in one sitting. I love stories with strong alpha male characters, and Seth was about as alpha as they come!! The characters had amazing chemistry, and the anticipation of them getting together had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through...and bracing for one heck of a explosion! Definitely one of the hottest reads that I have read all summer!! Highly recommend you add this one to the the top of your summer reading list...and make sure you grab a fan too, cause this book is HOT!! I really enjoyed this bodyguard romance, with Seth (posing as Dean the bouncer at the bar Ivy works for) having the responsibility to keep an eye on Ivy at the request of her Colonel father. That this man saved Seth's life in Afghanistan means he owes him a debt he feels he can never repay - though it also makes his daughter off limits. This doesn't stop the attraction he feels for her though. But when he has to keep her safe from a killer and go into seclusion with her, how long can he keep his hands off her, when she makes it clear she's willing to go all in? Ivy was a friendly and fun girl with a bit of a shy side due to her lack of sexual experience but her advances towards Seth continually get turned away, much to her embarrassment. Seth is torn being doing the right thing and doing what he wants to do, and eventually he throws caution to the winds and this results in some steamy scenes between them. I appreciated that Seth didn't take his responsibility lightly and that he gave resisting her the old college try. But once things go farther, he's also willing to stand up for her and their relationship with her father. It was a fairly light and flirty romance with minimal angst, a bit of a suspense plot for the purposes of creating the circumstances for them to end up together, and an eventual happy ever after. 4 stars.

This was a first read for me from Amy Andrews!! I was surprised with her writing and can say that I am a fan of her work now. This was a great read that flowed really well and kept your attention throughout the whole book. Ivy is a young lady that has an over protective father, and who can blame him in this day and age?? I know that Ivy feels like she can never do anything on her own without her father having someone checking up on her, but I sort of liked the idea that her dad cared so much about her. Ivy's dad has secretly hired Dean a.k.a Seth to be a body guard for Ivy without her having any idea. Ivy thinks that Seth works for the bar where Ivy is working. When Ivy and Seth feels sparks in some conversations they have, Seth knows that he can not react on his feelings because he is supposed to be protecting Ivy instead of falling for her. One night when Ivy happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and sees something she shouldn't, both she and Seth have to go into protective custody. Ivy never thought that she would be locked away with Seth for 4 days and have no choice in the matter. Seth and Ivy have several close encounters while in the hotel room together being roommates, but neither acts upon those feelings for awhile except a heated kiss. Seth will not give into his feelings for Ivy but he is so turned on by her and seeing her every minute of everyday is not helping his situation. This story has a good plot and is romantic and suspenseful. I enjoyed this quick read and look forward to more from Amy in the near future!!

3.5 stars I enjoyed this book but I was expecting a bit more action that what was in it. Don't get me wrong it was good and you should read it but just don't expect much action. This is the first book I've read by Amy Andrews and I will definitely check out her others. Ivy is working at a bar getting some freedom in her life from her overprotective father and hoping that she will get to lose her v card since her father scares all prospective boyfriends away. Unbeknownst to her Seth is there posing as Dean the bouncer who was hired by her father to look after her because there have been threats against him so he wants to make sure his daughter is safe. They both have felt attracted to each other but haven't done anything about it because 1 Ivy is too shy to do approach him about it and 2 Seth is on the job and doesn't want to cross the line with her. One night they witness a murder and have to go into protective custody in a motel to stay safe. Seth wants to confess to Ivy but her dad tells him absolutely not. Seth feels like he owes the Colonel since the Colonel saved his life he does as he's told. Well as they get to know each other and with Ivy trying her hardest to seduce him he is put in a hard spot because he wants her but knows when she finds out the truth she will hate him. Will he cross the line with her? Will she find out and understand why he kept his identity and purpose for being there a secret? Will the cops find the person who is after them? 3.5**** I liked the premise of this book, it is a little different than other books. Dean was a take charge protector keeping Ivy from harm. And Ivy was a sweet innocent trying to be strong young woman. Their chemistry was instantaneous and hot. Their time together holed up in the hotel was intriguing, sensual, and enlightening. I enjoyed the way she could get him to open up, reveal himself. I would have liked a little more oomph in the angst of the story and a liitle more into the reconciliation. But this was an interesting and entertaining read nonetheless. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.

Ivy Danforth is trying to get out from under her overprotective father’s thumb. However, he’s a former Colonel and that’s not happening. He sends Seth Rodrigo, ex-Special Forces, to watch over Ivy. Then she witnesses a murder. Awkward. Then they end up in protective custody while the cops search for the killer. Awkward and hot. Alone. Together. For four days. And what happens? Romance, as usual. The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between -Simple, character-driven story: This is a fairly straightforward story, and 90% of the focus is on just Ivy and Seth. There’s some danger, but the bulk of the story is Seth and Ivy getting to know each other and Seth fighting his attraction to Ivy. I think Ms. Andrews did a good job of allowing Seth and Ivy’s connection to shine through a combination of dialogue and inner monologues, one not dominating the other. -Ivy knows what she wants and I like that: Anything physical that happens is due to Ivy’s pursuit, even if she wasn’t overly aggressive, she certainly didn’t hold back from going for what she wants. -Seth was a straight up good guy: Now, normally I’m all about the hero pursuing, but in this instance, I think it was completely in character for Seth NOT to be the pursuer. It was an honorable thing. This is told in third person POV, so there’s never a doubt that Seth has feelings and great desire for Ivy. He’s just a good guy trying to do the right thing. My only wish was that he had his epiphany a little earlier and that he did a bit more. But it still works. -It’s a slow burn, but...: The sexual tension and heat was well done, building and building, keeping me interested while not dangling the carrot too long, so to speak. -The physical danger was minimal: Considering Ivy and Seth witnessed a murder, there aren’t many action sequences. It’s not the focal point of the story, so there’s no real suspense as to who did it and why, etc. I would have liked to see more of Ivy and Seth’s working at the bar, since I would have loved to have seen their first meeting or at least some time with them before they dive into protective custody. I still enjoyed it, but I can only imagine how much more I could have enjoyed it with more suspenseful bent to the story, not just romance. The elements are there, but there’s no follow up. I think I could have really been hooked if that had happened. The Bottom Line An enjoyable read and one of the best entries in the Men of the Zodiac series. If you like bodyguard romances, you may enjoy this. **ARC provided by publisher via netgalley for review**
