Editorial Reviews

Mike Tribby
Talk about a book whose time has come! Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana (among other states) have recently legalized riverboat gambling, and if the aforementioned states (plus Mississippi and Louisiana) don't constitute middle America, then the term is meaningless. With this slim volume, Faragher brings to the Heartland an insider's view of the exotic world of riverboat gambling. Although it starts off with a perfunctory bit of gambling history, the book gets down to meat and potatoes in a guide to the facilities and "action" out there, state by state. Faragher discusses limits and hours as well as accommodations and strategies of play, and he provides prices of admissions and services and phone numbers for reservations or more information, too. With gambling sprees to Vegas and Atlantic City well established in the American travel and vacation scene, Faragher's effort is a worthwhile addition to public library travel collections (though users luckless at the tables may not see it that way).
