A wonderful book. The pages seem gold on the outside. It comes with a gold ribbon bookmark. Many people are complaining that there are many typos. Please note that the book was written in England and that English people spell things different than American people. For example, they spell realize as realise, with an S.

To most people who think this book has typos they should know that the book was made in the United Kingdom. British people spell things differently than we do in the United States. Stop blaming Barnes & Noble.

I have been in love with all of Barnes and Noble's Leatherbound Classics, and this one is certainly in my top favorites. I love fantasy stories that take me to another world, ergo i never thought that i would like mysteries, but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle sure proved me wrong! This book is so mind stimulating anyone would find it hard to put it down, even for a moment! Each story has so many new twists that the reader will never tire if the great mysteries. As a gift for any avid reader, mystery-lover or not, this is a perfect gift to all!

I have always loved sherlock holmes and have many of his books but w/ this one it is quite nice to have them all compiled into one book. And w/ such an amazing cover too.

This complete collection of the adventure of Sherlock Holmes is great, with a nice, solid hardcover, thin papers, and nice front. I like it. It is definitely one of the books I will keep as collections. PS The “typos” are not really typos, but British English spellings. So be alarmed, do not misjudge the quality of the great book!!!!

I love this book and its physical characteristics.

I have many books from this Barnes and Noble collection. I am quite fond of it, and love the way the entire series looks together on my livingroom shelf. The story is great. I had not read any Sherlock Holmes previous to this, and it is quite enjoyable. The book is nicely made. The pages are gold edged, the cover is nicely embossed, and the plaid liner is very traditionally Holmes-like. The price was reasonable considering the quality of the books structure, all the way down to the ribbon bookmark. The only thing holding me back from giving this book a full five stars is that it is wrought with typos. Some are minor letter transposition, such as the being teh, but some are much more serious. There were a couple of sentences that I had to scan a few times. It could be a little distracting at moments. It does not seem to have been proofed before entering publication.

The tales between the two covers of this book are nothing less than a masterpiece; The Sherlock Holmes Chronicles is of such an upstanding nature that, believe it or not, most people believe that our Mr Holmes was indeed a living historical figure! ANYWAY--If you love delving into the human mind, sardonic humor, and remarkably magnificent adventures enveloping the most lovable characters, then you MUST get this series. This particular book (which craftsmanship is only surpassed by that of the stories it holds) is a wondrous an endearing compendium of psychological study, social dynamics, cold reading, a dash of the sciences, chock full of british wit and entrancing stories that will not only challenge your mind, but leave you with a cheshire grin at the turn of every page.

For years I have heard of Sherlock Homes but I have never read any of the stories. I purchased this collection with little expectations, I wanted to stories to "speak to me" with a clear mind. I must say that I am not disappointed at all. The writing is clear and concise, the characters and plots are easy to like and follow while not being too simplistic, and overall the stories provide an entertaining thrill to the reader. The book itself is leatherbound and hardcover and contains a nice biographical introduction that is a pleasure to read. Most Introductions can bore the reader within the first couple of paragraphs but not this one. It is written by a devoted fan of the author's works and therefore gives many interesting and entertaining facts. If you are into Classic Literature then this collection is one to add to your personal library or give as a gift. My only complaint is that the pages are very thin but I think that is to be expected with collected works like these all in one volume. I did not find this to be a deterent from reading the stories though. These leatherbound classics also come with a fabric bookmarker in the book itself which makes it more than convenient. I highly recommend this collection of stories as well as this series for anyone who is into building their personal library. It is a book that can be passed down through the generations of readers in your family.

Don't be put off by the "spelling mistakes" that people seem to be complaining about.  These "typos" are actually intentional--and correct--English spellings. The book itself has everything one would expect from the Leatherbound Classics series: you have your gold leaf pages, woven ribbon bookmark, and classy and intricate leather binding, containing the definitive and unabridged adventures of Sherlock Holmes. There isn't a single missing story here.  If you like Doyle, Holmes, or mysteries in general, get this book.  You will enjoy it.

Great for collections. Been looking for a Holmes collection for a while and was impressed with this one. Beautiful cover and great price. Highly recommend.

I read Sherlock as a teen. Now that I am retired, it was a real pleasure to discover him again. I never read the full set of his writings. This book gives all of Sherlock's stories, both long and short. I enjoyed the short mysteries best. The book was a little heavy to hold, so I made a lapboard to read on summer afternoons.

There isn't much to say since the title describes it all in one word. The book looks gorgeous, feels very firm in the hand, and each story is so perfectly planned and so well detailed that unless you don't like books over an elementary reading level than I can see no reason why you wouldn't like this book.

This complete collection of the Sherlock Holmes series is an amazing deal. The reader gets a thrilling ride in the alcoves of the late 1800s British crime. An intellectually appealing book that gives an interesting outlook on criminal analysis. The book cover is great although the book is pretty heavy. The book also has almost no typos in the first few books, but there are more as the reader gets toward the end of the book.

Disgraceful treatment of such classic literature. Having read no further than A Study in Scarlet, I have encountered no fewer than 70 typographical errors within its 71 pages. The errors vary from spelling mistakes, careless capitalisation and punctuation, to Americanised spellings of what was originally a British book (Seriously, that's like spellchecking Shakespeare!). They seem to be similarly spread throughout the rest of the anthology, as I have glanced ahead. I wanted to contact the editors, to offer my proofreading, or get something sorted, but B&N's inept Customer "Service" couldn't provide the necessary contact details or offer any result better than a potential refund (which wouldn't have got the book fixed). Conclusion: A beautiful cover, but B&N have mangled classic literature within, were unwilling to fix it themselves, and didn't let me help fix it. I will not be buying from B&N or publishing with them. Ever. Again.

This book is greatly composed, both by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Barnes and Noble. The stories are suspenseful and the quality of the book is nothing but exceptional. I really like the real leather cover and the quality of the pages. The typos are not typos, but only a difference of international spelling. Excellent!

For $18.00, this is a wonderful book. I have recently discovered the leather bound collection, and am very happy with this and all the others I have purchased. The covers are beautiful, and the paper is exactly the kind that I prefer; neither the overly glossy type nor the thick pulpy textured type that is often found these days. Do not pay any attention to the people complaining of typos when deciding whether or not to purchase the books in this collection. Most of the books in the collection were written in England in the 19th century, which accounts for the differences in spelling of many words. I own other editions of the Sherlock Holmes stories, and the versions that stay true to the original British text have all of the same spelling "errors" that are found in this edition. These errors are the way the wrote them, and should not be changed in my opinion. I actually love this edition more for not changing the spellings. The physical book itself is really lovely. It is a hefty book, with a lovely cover design. The print is what I would consider normal sized, but others may call small. The text size is in part to accommodate the number of stories included as is the thickness of the book. It seems pretty well bound, and compared to the usual paperback it is amazing that a book like this is under $40. The stories are old favorites, so there is very little point in reviewing them and the writing. I have loved all things Sherlock Holmes since I was ten years old; the books, the radio programs, and the old television shows starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.

This Complete Sherlock Holmes edition by Sir A. Conan Doyle is exactly what the good doctor (Watson, I believe) ordered. It is very difficult in searching the web to find the Holmesian Canon in one volume that is presented as well as this edition. All the beloved stories are here in easy to read and find formats with very nice illustrations to begin each title. It is very nice to have a sewn-in ribbon book mark with composite leather cover! I believe I would have a preferred a little larger size, like a coffee table size; however, for the great price, whose to complain? This is truly a bargain - I actually saw the same book on another website being sold by an individual asking $140. for it! Thank you Barnes and Noble for making this publication available at such a bargain price. I would have paid 3 times the price I paid, but not $140!! Keep up the good work with great bang for the buck.

I truly love detective stories, and they don't get any better than dear Sherlock. It's a bit verbose at times, but that's more of a sign of the times than anything; Doyle and his contemporaries loved to take their time telling the story. If you can get past the thick text, though, you'll find a lovably eccentric character and some grand adventures.

The cover has a more classic look than the previous edition. As for the contents obviously it has all the great Sherlock Holmes stories, but there are many terrible spelling errors to be found that do not belong.

I have seen some of Sherlock Holmes movies on TV and really liked them so decided this would be a good investment. I have not finished reading all the books within this large book but I definitely have not been disappointed so far. I assume the rest of the books in this volume will be very good as were the first two. KelelaCR

Exceptional quality book when referring to the quality, styling, and  durability of the cover. However the text size is to small for me. It makes the book differ from the eBook version by 2000 pages. At first i though it was because they left something out. All in all great book if your looking for a showpiece for your shelf, not however if your looking for portability or carefully edited pages.
