I am absolutely loving this cookbook, as I guessed I would after hearing its authors on an NPR program. It's full of basic kitchen information, starter tips for purchasing and preparing vegetables, and of course hundreds of great vegetarian recipes. I've tried several in my first two weeks of owning the book. I'd recommend you go straight to the delectable cauliflower cakes on page 42, under "Hearty Vegetarian Mains." I've made two soups - the carrot-ginger which was rave-worthy and the super greens which just felt fantastic to eat when I was coming down with a cold. I love the introd paragraphs talking about "why" the recipe works and the glimpses into the testers' discoveries prior to landing on the current recipe. Highly recommend overall, for any level of cook and/or any comfort with working with vegetables!
The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook prepared by America's Test Kitchen is great source of knowledge for people who has to adapt their diet in a way to remove meat from their plates. I'm in a mixed marriage ... my husband eats meat, and I'm a vegetarian for health reasons. This kind of change can be difficult for those who didn’t choose to do such change but were forced by health problems, cookbooks such as this one will be of great help showing that transition doesn’t have to be a painful. So imagine my surprise when I find a cookbook filled with recipes that even my husband can enjoy with me. This is the second cook I read from ATK and impressions are the same – combination of nice design with lot of high quality pictures combined with tasteful meat free recipes, made with ingredients that can be found in local grocery shop. This book is a must have for both vegetarians and anyone looking to whip up some tasty side dishes.
